Job Description Our client, a law firm in El Segundo, CA, is seeking a Senior Paralegal/Legal Assistant in a high-level support role. You will provide heavy support to a senior income partner and work closely with a team of three attorneys, including senior and junior associates, as well as the partners direct secretary. The team is currently in the midst of trial preparation, so someone who can step in quickly, take ownership of assignments, anticipate attorney needs, and hit the ground running is essential. The ideal candidate is highly organized, proactive, and able to manage competing priorities with minimal direction. Contracted role with the opportunity for permanent hire Fully onsite Monday-Friday 8:30am-5:00pm Pay rate: $35-38/hour on contract, 85k if taken on permanent
Responsibilities:
Provide comprehensive paralegal/legal assistant support to a senior income partner and litigation team. Assist attorneys throughout the litigation lifecycle, with a strong emphasis on trial preparation and trial support. Manage and maintain complex litigation calendars, including court deadlines, hearings, depositions, conferences, and trial dates. Assist with preparation for upcoming trials, including organizing case materials, exhibits, documents, and attorney work product. Coordinate and track case deadlines and ensure attorneys are aware of upcoming requirements. Assist with discovery-related tasks, document organization, case files, and litigation support. Prepare, organize, and maintain correspondence, pleadings, legal documents, and other case materials. Work collaboratively with the partners secretary and senior/junior associates to ensure seamless support across the team. Communicate with attorneys, clients, courts, opposing counsel, experts, and other outside parties as appropriate. Help keep attorneys organized and prepared during periods of heavy litigation activity. Take initiative to identify what needs to be done and follow through without requiring constant direction. Handle confidential and sensitive information with professionalism and discretion. Perform additional litigation and administrative responsibilities as needed.
Required Qualifications:
5+ years minimum legal support experience (potentially open to 3-5 if med mal/ PI) Strong experience supporting litigation attorneys, ideally in a defense environment. True trial preparation experience is highly important  candidates should have actually supported attorneys through trial preparation rather than solely having general litigation experience. Medical malpractice experience is highly preferred. Experience with elder abuse litigation is highly preferred. Personal injury litigation experience is preferred. Strong calendaring and deadline-management skills. Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail. Ability to work independently while also functioning as a collaborative member of a legal team. Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with shifting priorities and tight deadlines. Proactive, resourceful, and willing to take ownership of responsibilities. Strong written and verbal communication skills.
