Job Description

Description We are looking for a Legal Assistant to join an innovative intellectual property practice in Los Angeles, California. This contract position offers the chance to build hands-on experience supporting patent and trademark matters, including work related to design patents, within a collaborative legal environment. The ideal candidate is highly organized, attentive to detail, and comfortable managing administrative and legal support tasks while communicating effectively with attorneys and clients.
Responsibilities:
  • Support patent filing, registration, and maintenance activities by preparing documents, tracking deadlines, and helping keep records current.
  • Examine patent portfolios and verify information by comparing physical files with firm records to confirm accuracy and completeness.
  • Review legal and administrative materials for formatting, grammar, and content consistency before submission or distribution.
  • Enter and update information in databases, schedules, and tracking systems with a strong focus on precision and timeliness.
  • Assist with trademark-related administrative work, including application support and office correspondence, when needed.
  • Coordinate communications with attorneys and corporate contacts to help maintain organized workflows and responsive service.
  • Organize case materials, calendars, and supporting documentation to ensure matters are handled efficiently.
  • Contribute to team operations by taking initiative, identifying discrepancies, and helping resolve routine file management issues. Requirements
  • 3+ years of experience in a legal support role, ideally within intellectual property, patents, trademarks, or copyright matters.
  • Familiarity with patent or trademark processes, including exposure to USPTO-related research or filings.
  • Strong data entry skills with the ability to maintain accurate records across multiple systems and schedules.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint; experience with graphics software is a plus.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for effective interaction with attorneys, colleagues, and business contacts.
  • Demonstrated attention to detail and the ability to manage priorities in a structured, deadline-driven environment.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a team while also showing initiative and dependable independent judgment.
  • Internship experience in trademark or intellectual property law will be considered an asset.
