BLG has an opening for an in-office full-time removal defense paralegal with a minimum of 2-3 years' experience in immigration law, including at least 1-2 years of removal defense experience before the Immigration Court (EOIR). The paralegal will assist the firm's attorneys in representation of clients in removal proceedings (primarily asylum and cancellation of removal), as well as related family and humanitarian-based immigration matters. Responsibilities Review and prepare applications and pleadings for filing with the Immigration Court (EOIR) and the appropriate government agency (including I-589, EOIR-42A/EOIR-42B, EOIR-28, motions to continue, change venue, reopen or terminate, bond motions, and

where applicable). Prepare and assemble evidentiary filings, including country conditions packets, declarations, exhibit indexes, witness lists, and proposed orders, in compliance with the Immigration Court Practice Manual. File documents through
ECAS/EOIR
Courts & Appeals System and track filing deadlines, call-up dates, and hearing notices. Calendar and track master calendar and individual merits hearings, bond hearings, and all court-imposed deadlines; confirm hearing dates through the EOIR automated case information system. Assist attorneys in preparing clients and witnesses for hearings, including scheduling preparation sessions and organizing hearing binders. Obtain and review Records of Proceeding, Notices to Appear (I-862), A-file materials, FOIA requests, and criminal records relevant to removability and eligibility for relief. Communicate with clients regarding procedural and case processing issues, while preparing and reviewing cases. Ensure clients are kept informed of any missing documents and the process of their cases before and after filing cases. Provide case status reports regarding all assigned cases on a weekly basis to the Manager. Utilize case management system regularly to update case processing status and any client information. Assist Attorney with case preparation and be the point of contact between client and attorney. Complete case preparation in a timely manner. Prioritize and meet assigned deadlines, provide reports, communicate case progress/issues to manager on a weekly basis. Maintain both hardcopy and electronic client case files. Translate client documents.
Qualification:
At least 2-3 years of Immigration Law Experience and at least 1-2 years of Removal Defense experience before the Immigration Court (EOIR). Working knowledge of the Immigration Court Practice Manual, EOIR filing requirements, and ECAS electronic filing. Hands-on experience preparing asylum (I-589), cancellation of removal (EOIR-42A/42B), bond, and related motions practice. Bilingual (English/Spanish) a must. Immigration Case Management Experience preferred but not required. Excellent Customer Service Skills. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Strong attention to detail and the ability to manage court deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
