Job Description

Overview We're a small, well-established Connecticut law firm with deep community roots and a strong record in criminal defense and civil litigation, including high-profile cases that have drawn national attention. Our reputation was built over decades of fighting hard for our clients and staying connected to the community we serve. We're hiring an experienced paralegal to support our attorneys across a steady criminal caseload and a smaller volume of civil matters. This is a role for someone who has done this work before and can start managing files independently early on. What you'll do Manage criminal and civil case files from intake through resolution Draft motions, pleadings, subpoenas, discovery responses, and correspondence Handle court filings, both in person and e-filing, in local and state courts Maintain attorney calendars, including hearings, deadlines, and client meetings Communicate directly with clients, including Spanish-speaking clients Coordinate with investigators, court clerks, and opposing counsel Track deadlines and keep case administration accurate and current What we're looking for 5+ years of paralegal experience preferred; 3+ years considered for the right candidate Criminal defense experience required Civil litigation administrative experience (personal injury or general civil) is a plus Proven ability to manage a high-volume caseload independently — intake, filings, scheduling, and client communication Spanish fluency, spoken and written, strongly preferred Exceptionally organized and detail-oriented, with a track record of not missing deadlines Strong written and verbal communication skills Professional, reliable, and discreet with sensitive and high-profile matters Prior supervisory or office management experience is a plus Compensation and benefits $34.00-$40.00 per hour, commensurate with experience 35-hour work week Health insurance 401(k) Paid time off and paid holidays Why join us Meaningful, high-impact cases with real stakes for the people involved A small, respected team where your work is visible and your judgment matters Pay that competes with Hartford and New Haven, without the commute A firm grounded in integrity, advocacy, and long-standing community ties
