Preference will be given to candidates with prior Paralegal experience. This individual will play an essential role in Smith Hulsey & Busey's Litigation Department, supporting Shareholders and Associates and be an integral aspect to achieving the Firm's overall objectives.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Reporting directly to 2+ Litigation lawyers Typing, reading, reviewing, and editing documents (hard copy and electronic) and specialized correspondence Communicating with lawyers and clients to keep everyone up-to-date Coordinating appointments, including all correspondence and logistics necessary; keeping calendars up-to-date for all involved parties Assisting with accounting and billing needs by responding accurately and promptly to the Firm's Accounting Department for concerns, including but not limited to: time-keeping input, questions and adjustments, Work In Process status updates, delinquent accounts receivables, etc. Preparing legal documents such as responses, summons, complaints, and subpoenas Readying materials for trial proceedings including documents, evidence, and verifying factual information Supporting lawyers during trial by preparing documents, fact checking, preparing evidence for presentation and tracking case developments; researching and compiling information that helps strengthen a case for the assigned lawyer(s) Maintaining a log and/or file for reference and review for each matter/case/client Seeing that the client files in the Litigation Department are kept in good order, including: documents being accurately scanned in/filed to Firm systems, are kept well-ordered, binders are organized accurately, etc. Coordinating work flow with other Legal Assistants; taking responsibility for the quality and timeliness of the secretarial work product Additional duties as required.
Bachelor's Degree preferred, or equivalent combination of education and work experience Prior experience with time-keeping, document management and record management software; NetDocuments preferred Proficiency in computer technology used in an office environment (Microsoft Word, Excel, Adobe, etc.) Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with lawyers, executives, and clients Initiative, critical thinking mindset, and problem-solving skills are must-haves
Additional Information:
The candidate should plan to work scheduled in-office hours coinciding with lawyers she/he supports for best productivity realization; these hours are typically but not exclusively 8:30 am - 5:30 pm, Monday - Friday Minimal overtime hours should be anticipated, and will be discussed in advance and necessitated by special projects and/or work flow.
