Role Description:
We are seeking an experienced Litigation Paralegal with 5+ years of civil litigation experience, preferably handling general liability matters like bodily injury and property damage cases (plaintiff or defense).The Litigation Paralegal will support attorneys in all phases of civil litigation, with a focus on liability defense matters, including case intake, presuit investigations, review and analysis of pleadings, discovery, motion practice, trial preparation, and case management. Day-to-day responsibilities include drafting and formatting legal documents and other correspondence, assisting with investigations, managing case files, preparing and reviewing party and non-party discovery, coordinating and communicating with fact and expert witnesses, organizing evidence and exhibits, summarizing key facts and evidence for case analysis, review and draft deposition summaries, and coordinating deadlines and calendars. The role also involves conducting legal research, reviewing documents for accuracy and completeness, and assisting with discovery responses, pleadings, and motions. The Litigation Paralegal will communicate with clients, court personnel, and other parties as needed, always maintaining professionalism and confidentiality. Qualifications Minimum 5 years of litigation experience as a litigation paralegal working in personal injury (plaintiff or defense), general liability, and complex litigation, preferably in a law firm setting, and a paralegal certificate or equivalent education. Experience handling general liability cases (presuit and litigated) from intake through resolution. Experience assisting in the preparation of depositions, mediations, arbitrations, and trials. Strong working knowledge of Florida Rules of Civil Procedure and e-filing portals, and experience reviewing local rules and court practices and preferences. Proficient in managing discovery workflows, including drafting interrogatories, requests for production, requests for admissions, subpoenas, and non-party requests as needed. Experience handling discovery response review from parties and non-parties to ensure ongoing case evaluation, progression, and to identify additional, ongoing discovery needs. Experience reviewing and summarizing technical data and concepts and communicating with clients and witnesses as needed to further secure understanding and import of relevant data or concepts. Experience coordinating depositions, scheduling compulsory medical examinations (CMEs), and managing expert witness discovery and deposition availability. Experience reviewing, analyzing, and summarizing medical records, billing records, life care plans, and other medical treatment records. Strong written and verbal communication; must be an excellent communicator and willing to ask questions and engage in thoughtful conversations involving nuanced issues. Skills Strong attention to detail, time management, and the ability to prioritize and manage multiple assignments and deadlines. Possess strong skills in legal document preparation and document review, including organizing, analyzing, and summarizing case-related records and evidence. Possess skills related to pleadings and motions, including drafting, formatting, and filing court documents in compliance with rules and procedures in Florida state and federal courts. Possess skills in legal research, including using legal databases and resources to support case strategies and motion practice. Ability to work collaboratively with attorneys and staff and to maintain client confidentiality and professional ethics is essential. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and Adobe Acrobat. Proficiency utilizing Westlaw or other legal research software. Self-starter, with ability to work both independently and as part of a team. Technology savvy with ability to learn and develop working knowledge of applicable legal technology tools and case management software. Salary Competitive salary commensurate with experience.
