Job Description

Paralegal / Legal Assistant - Family Law Join our dynamic family law team as a Paralegal/Legal Assistant and play an essential role in supporting attorneys and managing legal matters. This fast-paced position is ideal for someone who is organized, detail-oriented, proactive, and committed to providing high-quality work. You'll assist with case management, legal research, document preparation, client communication, and trial preparation while working in a collaborative environment that values initiative, accountability, and professional growth.
Schedule & Location:
Monday-Friday Flexible schedule: 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. or 9:00 a.m.-6:00 p.m. In-person position in Rockford, IL, or Davis, IL Candidates near Freeport and surrounding areas may find the Davis office particularly convenient Business-casual office environment
Pay:
$22-$33/hour, depending on experience This is a long term commitment
Key Responsibilities:
Assist attorneys with legal documents, pleadings, and discovery materials Conduct legal research using online databases and resources Organize and maintain accurate, complete case files Manage deadlines for court filings, hearings, and meetings Communicate professionally with clients, courts, and outside agencies Draft correspondence, memoranda, and case summaries Assist with trial preparation, including exhibits, witness lists, and related materials
Qualifications:
2-5 years of family law experience as a paralegal or legal assistant required Strong knowledge of legal terminology, procedures, and document management Excellent organizational skills and ability to prioritize multiple deadlines Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook Familiarity with legal research tools such as LexisNexis Exceptional attention to detail and strong written and verbal communication skills Ability to work independently and effectively as part of a team Strong sense of urgency, initiative, and accountability Paralegal degree or certification preferred, but not required Why Join Us?
