Metzner & Houpt is seeking an experienced, dependable, and highly organized Legal Assistant to join our Hagerstown law office. This is a full-time, in-person position supporting our attorneys and paralegal in a busy legal practice. We are looking for someone who is professional, detail-oriented, comfortable managing multiple priorities, and interested in becoming a long-term member of our team. Prior law office experience is strongly preferred.
Responsibilities include:
Answering phones and communicating with clients, courts, opposing counsel, and other offices Scheduling appointments, hearings, meetings, and maintaining calendars Preparing, formatting, proofreading, scanning, and organizing legal documents and correspondence Maintaining electronic and physical client files Opening and closing client matters Assisting with electronic court filings Monitoring deadlines and calendar matters Preparing routine correspondence and documents Obtaining and organizing records and case-related documents Assisting with discovery, subpoenas, and document production Maintaining accurate information in the firm's case-management system General administrative and legal support as needed
Qualifications:
Previous law office experience strongly preferred Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail Strong written and verbal communication skills Ability to prioritize assignments and meet deadlines Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Outlook Experience with Clio is a plus Familiarity with Maryland electronic court filing is a plus Ability to maintain client confidentiality and exercise professional judgment Dependable, self-motivated, and able to work both independently and as part of a team We are looking for someone who takes initiative, follows through on assignments, and understands the importance of accuracy and organization in a law office. Training will be provided on our firm's specific procedures and systems.
