JOB OVERVIEW
Ahmad Assed & Associates is seeking an organized, dependable, and detail-oriented Paralegal to support our attorneys in a fast-paced Albuquerque law practice. The ideal candidate will communicate professionally, manage competing deadlines, maintain confidential information, and take initiative in moving cases forward. This position involves direct contact with attorneys, clients, courts, opposing counsel, law-enforcement agencies, and medical providers. Experience in criminal defense and/or personal-injury law is preferred.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Draft, format, file, and serve pleadings, motions, notices, correspondence, and other legal documents. Maintain case files, calendars, court deadlines, hearings, appointments, and attorney task lists. Review discovery and case materials; identify missing records, evidence, and information. Request, organize, download, label, and distribute discovery and records. Communicate professionally with clients, courts, prosecutors, opposing counsel, witnesses, medical providers, and other agencies. Schedule client meetings, attorney-client calls, witness interviews, depositions, and court appearances. Assist attorneys with trial, hearing, deposition, and settlement preparation. Prepare case summaries, timelines, discovery indexes, medical-expense summaries, and other case-management documents. Obtain police reports, body-camera footage, medical records, billing records, and other supporting documentation. Maintain accurate notes, correspondence, and case information in the firm's case-management system. Monitor cases regularly and follow up on outstanding documents, deadlines, and assigned tasks. Provide administrative and litigation support as needed. Protect client confidentiality and comply with all ethical and professional obligations.
REQUIREMENTS
Prior paralegal or legal-assistant experience preferred. Experience in criminal defense, personal injury, or civil litigation is strongly preferred. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Excellent organization, attention to detail, and time-management abilities. Ability to prioritize multiple assignments and meet strict deadlines. Ability to work independently, exercise sound judgment, and follow through on tasks. Professional and compassionate communication with clients, including individuals facing stressful circumstances. Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, Adobe Acrobat, and electronic file-management systems. Ability to learn court-filing systems, case-management software, and other legal technology. Reliable attendance and the ability to work effectively as part of a team. High school diploma or equivalent required; paralegal certificate, associate degree, or bachelor's degree preferred. Bilingual English/Spanish skills are a plus but are not required.
