Legal Assistant Third Judicial District Attorney's Office - 2.5 Las Cruces, NM Job Details Full-time $17.08 - $21.35 an hour 14 hours ago Qualifications High school diploma or GED Full Job Description The Third Judicial District Attorney's Office is seeking a highly organized, motivated, and detail-oriented Legal Assistant to join our team. Why the Third Judicial District Attorney's Office? A Legal Assistant in our office is more than an administrative support role. This position offers an opportunity to work directly with prosecutors and professional staff throughout the life cycle of criminal cases. Legal Assistants play an important role in keeping cases organized, deadlines on track, legal documents accurate, and attorneys prepared for court. The position provides an opportunity to develop practical experience in criminal prosecution, legal case management, court processes, and the operation of the justice system while working alongside attorneys and other experienced professionals. If you have experience in a law office, court, prosecutor's office, public defender's office, law enforcement agency, criminal justice organization, or other professional environment requiring strong organization, case management, records, attention to detail, confidentiality, and the ability to manage competing priorities, we encourage you to apply. What You'll Do As a Legal Assistant, you will provide legal administrative and case-management support to prosecutors and other professional staff.
Responsibilities include:
Preparing and processing legal documents, correspondence, pleadings, notices, subpoenas, and other case-related materials Assisting prosecutors with preparation for trials, hearings, and other court proceedings; Creating, organizing, and maintaining electronic and physical case files Entering, updating, and maintaining accurate information within the case management system Managing calendars and tracking hearings, trials, deadlines, and other case-related events; Assisting with the organization and processing of discovery and case materials Performing electronic filing and producing case-related documents Communicating with witnesses regarding scheduling and case-related matters Coordinating routine case information with court personnel, law enforcement agencies, and other criminal justice partners Proofreading legal documents and correspondence for accuracy, completeness, grammar, and formatting Identifying missing or incomplete administrative case information and bringing time-sensitive matters to the attention of appropriate staff Maintaining the confidentiality and security of sensitive and protected information. What We're Looking For The successful candidate will be someone who: Is highly organized and attentive to detail Can effectively manage multiple assignments and deadlines Communicates professionally and effectively with attorneys, coworkers, witnesses, justice-system partners, and members of the public Produces accurate, professional work and takes pride in getting the details right Exercises sound judgment and discretion when handling confidential and sensitive information Is comfortable learning and using case-management, electronic filing, and other technology systems Takes initiative within established procedures and recognizes when an issue needs to be brought to someone's attention Works effectively both independently and as part of a team Is interested in developing knowledge of criminal prosecution, court procedures, and the criminal justice system. Minimum Qualifications High school diploma or GED and two (2) years of work experience in a related field. Preferred Qualifications Three (3) years of work experience and/or education in a related field.
