A Paralegal or Legal Assistant assists attorneys and law offices with a variety of tasks ranging from administrative support to legal research and writing. Maintains and organizes files or file databases. Conducts legal or other background research, assists with preparation for trials or hearings, and drafts documents to be filed. Uses software for electronic discovery of materials such as email for a trial. May specialize in a particular area of the law such as corporate or criminal law, family law or real estate law.

Job Description
Key ResponsibilitiesSupport attorneys in all phases of litigation, including preparing pleadings, motions, discovery responses, and trial exhibitsManage caseloads by organizing files, tracking deadlines, and maintaining case calendars and docketsCoordinate communication with clients, witnesses, court personnel, and opposing counsel; schedule meetings, hearings, and deposition logisticsDraft correspondence, legal summaries, and memos; proofread and format legal documents to court standardsAssist with file opening and closing, indexing documents, and maintaining an accurate case management systemPrepare and process court filings, e-filings, and service documents; monitor status and confirm receiptConduct basic legal research and gather background information to support case strategyProvide general administrative support including answering phones, processing invoices, and managing office suppliesAssist attorneys during trial and hearings by organizing exhibits, coordinating witnesses, and managing trial logisticsQualificationsAssociate degree or certificate in paralegal studies, or equivalent legal assistant experience; Paralegal certification a plus2+ years experience supporting litigation attorneys or managing a litigation caseload in a law firm or legal departmentStrong knowledge of litigation procedures, court filing requirements, and discovery processesProficiency with case management software, e-filing systems, and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)Excellent written and verbal communication skills; strong proofreading and document drafting abilityHighly organized with strong attention to detail and the ability to prioritize multiple tasks and deadlinesProfessional demeanor with experience handling confidential information and interacting with clients and court personnelAdministrative experience, including calendar management, billing support, and office coordinationAbility to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced legal environment
