A Paralegal or Legal Assistant assists attorneys and law offices with a variety of tasks ranging from administrative support to legal research and writing. Maintains and organizes files or file databases. Conducts legal or other background research, assists with preparation for trials or hearings, and drafts documents to be filed. Uses software for electronic discovery of materials such as email for a trial. May specialize in a particular area of the law such as corporate or criminal law, family law or real estate law.
Description O'Hagan Meyer is looking for an organized and professional Legal Assistant/Paralegal to join our law firm. This individual will provide vital assistance to a team of attorneys by handling case-related tasks, preparing a variety of legal documentation, and managing case files. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, proficient in legal terminology, and understands the electronic filing procedures in State and Federal Courts. This will be full-time, in-office position with the possibility of transitioning into a hybrid work week.
Duties/Responsibilities:
Provide administrative support to lawyers in the preparation, review and filing of legal documents such as briefs, appeals, complaints, answers, etc. Communicate with clients on various aspects of case proceedings Locate, develop, and manage all case relevant information Draft legal documents including pleadings, discovery, motions, and briefs Coordinate with legal experts and serve as a liaison for all involved parties Schedule and prepare materials for court appearances Assist attorneys in case preparation by creating and maintaining organizational systems for each case Assist attorneys with trial preparation, develop trial exhibits, and review/organize documents for trial discovery Maintain attorney schedules and calendars O'Hagan Meyer is an Equal Opportunity Employer. Requirements:
Paralegal Certificate from an accredited and approved paralegal education program 3+ years of prior work experience as a legal assistant, legal secretary, or related role in litigation Experience in complex litigation, ideally in both Superior Court and in the Court of Chancery in Delaware Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite, Adobe Acrobat, Odyssey, Pacer and ECF Filing Systems Previous iManage experience preferred but not required Exceptional organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to multitask Strong written and oral communication skills Ability to work independently but also as part of a team Strong understanding of client confidentiality rules
