Uses software for electronic discovery of materials such as email for a trial. May specialize in a particular area of the law such as corporate or criminal law, family law or real estate law.
The Carlson Law Firm seeks highly motivated, dependable, loyal, outgoing, detailed-oriented Family Law Legal Assistant/Paralegal to join our Killeen Family Law team. The ideal candidate will provide comprehensive administrative and legal support to attorneys handling divorce, child custody, child support, adoption, enforcement, modifications, and other family law matters. This position requires exceptional organizational skills, professionalism, discretion, and the ability to thrive in a fast paced environment while providing outstanding client service. Essential Duties & Responsibilities Assist attorneys with all phases of family law cases from intake through resolution. Draft, proofread, and file legal documents, including pleadings, motions, discovery requests and responses, affidavits, notices, subpoenas, and correspondence. Prepare and organize exhibits, trial notebooks, mediation notebooks, and hearing materials. Maintain attorney calendars, schedule client meetings, mediations, depositions, hearings, and court appearances. Communicate professionally with clients, opposing counsel, court personnel, and third parties. Manage case files and maintain accurate documentation in the firm's case management system. Monitor deadlines and ensure timely filing of pleadings and court documents. Assist with discovery by organizing, reviewing, and preparing documents for production. Request, review, and summarize records and other case-related documents. Prepare billing entries and assist with timekeeping as needed. Answer incoming calls and respond promptly to client inquiries while maintaining confidentiality. Perform electronic filing (e-filing) with Texas state courts. Provide general administrative support, including scanning, copying, mailing, and document management. Qualifications Previous experience as a Legal Assistant or Paralegal, preferably in family law. Knowledge of Texas family law procedures and court filing requirements preferred. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Strong organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail. Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Strong client service skills with empathy and professionalism. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Outlook, Excel) and legal case management software. Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with attorneys and staff. Preferred Skills Experience with Texas e-filing systems. Familiarity with discovery procedures and trial preparation. Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment. Strong problem-solving and time management skills. Bilingual (English/Spanish) is a plus, but not required. Pay:
