JOB TITLE
: Criminal Defense Legal Assistant/ParalegalJOB TYPE
:Full-time DUTIES :
Help maintain a culture of zealous, smart, and principled criminal defense for an established law firm. Direct report to Partner, but will also assist associate attorney as needed. Screen incoming calls, gather information from prospective clients, explain firm services and fee structure and schedule initial appointments for the attorneys as directed. Maintain Partner's calendar and schedule appointments. Serve as the primary point of contact regarding communications with other attorneys, clients, witnesses, experts, investigators, process servers, clerks and judges' assistants. Organize and maintain digital and physical case files, including evidence and trial preparation materials. Draft and file correspondence, motions, orders, subpoenas and subpoenas duces tecum. Forms are generally available, but requires attention to detail, follow-up, and ability to recognize when circumstances may require edits. Gather, preserve, review, organize, and summarize documents, including medical and educational records and electronic evidence such as photos, recordings and posts on social media such as Facebook, TikTok, Instagram, Snapchat, cell phone text message strings and camera rolls, etc. Jury research and trial support Out of the office filing and general (legal and non-legal) errands Additional duties as assignedSKILLS REQUIRED
: High School Diploma Driver's license Basic typing skills (40 words per minute or more) Proficiency with Word, Outlook, Excel, and Adobe Acrobat. Proficiency or ability to learn other firm software (Practice Master, One Note, Power Point) Basic computer, cell phone, and social media technology skills Professionalism, reliability, and discretion Organizational skills Hustle Sense of humor Respect for people's right to counsel and to present a defense, even when accused of Very Bad Things. Ability to stomach working on cases involving Very Bad Things Must love dogs (Partner has a big one who comes to work)PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
