What they do
A Probation Officer or Correctional Treatment Specialist supervises criminal offenders who have been placed on probation as part of a court sentence. Meets with offenders and families, monitors activities, and checks to see that the terms of the probation are being followed. Arranges social services for the offender such as drug rehab or job training; writes reports and recommendations to the court.

Job Description
Responsibilities:
- Conduct assessments and investigations to determine the needs and risks of individuals on probation
- Develop and implement individualized case plans to address rehabilitation and reintegration goals
- Monitor and enforce compliance with court-ordered conditions of probation
- Provide counseling, support, and referrals to community resources for individuals on probation
- Maintain accurate and detailed case records, including report writing
- Collaborate with other criminal justice professionals, such as attorneys and law enforcement officers
Experience:
- Bachelor's degree required
- Previous experience working in probation, social work, or a related field is preferred
- Knowledge of criminal justice system procedures and laws
- Strong written and verbal communication skills for report writing and client interactions
- Ability to work effectively with diverse populations and individuals with complex needs
- Excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities
