Job Description

Purpose of Position The purpose of this position is to provide team-oriented case management to youth under the supervision of the Greene County Juvenile Office. This position will be challenged to understand due process and court procedures, while balancing current trends and evidence-informed practices in juvenile justice and child welfare. Individuals selected for this role will fall under the case management department of the Greene County Juvenile Office and could be assigned cases in Law and Status, Diversion, and Abuse and Neglect Units. The initial primary placement of this role will be in the Law and Status Unit. Essential Duties and Responsibilities The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned. Conduct preliminary inquiry and follow-up review of cases involving delinquency and status offense referrals, determine whether to file formal case action and/or consider all alternative disposition options available, and appropriate community resources. Respond to requests from law enforcement agencies for the presence of a juvenile officer during interviews. Administer juvenile's rights prior to law enforcement interview and ensure due process throughout all points of a case. Prepare affidavits and other supporting documents for the filing of petitions and amended petitions, motions, summons, subpoenas, court orders, investigative reports, dispositions and summaries for Court Hearings, and other court documents as needed. Administer objective screening and assessment tools to help guide decision making regarding detention or release and the preparation of appropriate disposition case/treatment plans. Assist in the preparation and presentation of cases for Greene County and the State of Missouri in court. Provide oral and written recommendations to the court. Prepare and maintain accurate case documentation and ensure confidential juvenile case records as required by Missouri Statutes. Prepare and attend post dispositional staffing and hearings when necessary on informal and formal cases. Make decisions regarding resolution of status offense and delinquency cases. Provide appropriate level of supervision of youth as needed and prepare updated reports for the Court regarding the youth's progress. Conduct reassessments and updates and/or review treatment plans every 90 days, at a minimum. Maintain awareness of various community based programs and prepare referrals to connect youth and families to recommended treatment and services. Develop and maintains a proficient knowledge in the use and application of urinalysis testing, as well as the process and procedures when working with court affiliated services Be familiar with the working knowledge of electronic monitoring equipment, as well as the process and procedures when working with court affiliated services. Respond to violations of court orders of youth being supervised by taking appropriate action utilizing available sanction options/services available. Recognize positive actions/progress of youth being supervised utilizing positive responses/incentives and resources available. Attend and participate in staffing meetings and hearings related to each case. Demonstrate an ability to effectively utilize collaborative decision making. Participate in training others and attend training to maintain knowledge of changes in Missouri Statutes and Supreme Court Rules as they pertain to juvenile cases. Coordinate and assist in the safe transportation of youth to and from detention and other appointments/placements as needed, utilizing County issued vehicle. Communicate with various agencies, schools, and treatment programs in a professional manner to gather information and records as needed concerning youth and families. Assimilate information to assist in the preparation of individualized case/treatment plans for youth involved in the Court process. Practice mediation and support of clients. Demonstrate an understating of and use skills of positive youth development. Build rapport and use effective communication skills with youth and families. Respond to calls from the public seeking information and addressing issues, as necessary. Assess and coordinate the collection of family court fees. Work with the Victim/Witness to arrange and manage restitution settlements. Attend staff meetings, as necessary. Develop and coordinate appropriate supervision and treatment for youth. Administer required assessment tools for the purpose of understanding youth risk and needs and guide youth case plans and level of supervision. Duties and responsibilities may be changed, expanded, reduced, or deleted to meet the business needs of Greene County Family/Juvenile Court. Additional Tasks and Responsibilities While the following tasks are necessary for the work of the unit, they are not an essential part of the purpose of this position and may also be performed by other unit members. Make copies, fax, scan, shred, and file necessary documents. Minimum Training and Experience Required to Perform Essential Job Functions Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Positive Youth Development, Psychology, Criminal Justice, Human Services, or related field required, with three years juvenile case management or social work experience. A valid Motor Vehicle Operator's license required.
