A Probation Officer or Correctional Treatment Specialist supervises criminal offenders who have been placed on probation as part of a court sentence. Meets with offenders and families, monitors activities, and checks to see that the terms of the probation are being followed. Arranges social services for the offender such as drug rehab or job training; writes reports and recommendations to the court.
Provide intake and investigation services for children in the East Baton Rouge juvenile justice system for the East Baton Rouge Office of the Public Defender-Juvenile Section (OPDBR). OPDBR seeks a skilled and committed Intake and Investigation Specialist to assist in defending our clients against delinquency charges. Investigators work closely with trial lawyers in a multidisciplinary model of team-based advocacy. The work of investigators requires creativity, perseverance, empathy, responsibility, and excellent communication skills. This position will perform all duties in accordance with applicable law, ethical rules, and performance standards promulgated by the East Baton Rouge Public Defender's Office. The Community You Will Join Through the untiring efforts of well-trained, professional public defenders, OPDBR provides zealous advocacy on behalf of indigent persons accused of crimes. providing holistic, dedicated, skilled, and client-directed advocacy for more than 600 indigent young people in the city's juvenile justice system every year. Our clients are represented by multidisciplinary teams; case managers, social workers, attorneys, and investigators; that develop and implement comprehensive advocacy plans to help children achieve their goals in court and in life. Your Contribution The Intake and Investigation Specialist position will play a crucial role in coordinating and communicating with attorneys regarding juvenile services referrals and/or clients. Additionally, collaborate with team to implement case plans as needed and communicate about client needs and assisting with case management related to the intersections of poverty & intergenerational trauma. This role will also review and analyze discovery, including police reports and other case documentation. Knowing the core principles of antiracism and grounding those principles in everyday work addressing issues through civil rights, poverty law and community engagement are required job skills and core values. Your Expertise A combination of education, certification and/or lived experience in criminal justice, social work, or equivalent with a focus on youth and families preferred. Great oral and written communication skills, with the ability to work within a diverse range of OPDBR constituents, including staff, clients and their families, and courts are required. Home visits and community engagement will be required. Detail oriented, strong multi-tasking skills and collaboration with a multi-disciplinary team is valued. Occasional travel for meetings and events throughout Louisiana may be required.
