Job Description

The Williamson County Juvenile Services Department is accepting applications for Youth Services Officers.
POSITION SUMMARY
The Youth Services Officer provides professional case management for civil-related juvenile court cases from assignment through closure. This position coordinates with youth, families, service providers, court personnel, and community partners to ensure appropriate services and case requirements are addressed. The position serves as a primary point of contact for youth and families, provides guidance and recommendations to the Court, maintains accurate case documentation, and ensures timely and accurate data entry within the case management system.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Manages assigned juvenile court cases from assignment through closure, maintaining accurate, complete, and timely case documentation. Communicates with youth, parents or guardians, service providers, court personnel, and team members to coordinate case requirements, services, and follow-up activities. Reviews case information, exercises professional judgment, and prepares recommendations and updates for the Judge and appropriate team members. Attends court proceedings for assigned cases, ensures parties are properly notified and prepared, and follows up on court-ordered or assigned tasks. Monitors participation and compliance with treatment and service providers, identifies needs or concerns, and communicates case updates as appropriate. Participates in docket and case reviews; evaluates programs and recommends or implements program changes as directed. Maintains current knowledge of juvenile laws, regulations, local court rules, professional practices, confidentiality requirements, and required training.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of federal, state, and county laws, regulations, and policies pertaining to juveniles, custody, child welfare, and confidentiality. Knowledge of community treatment resources and services addressing mental health, substance use, family dynamics, and other needs affecting youth and families. Knowledge of mediation, crisis intervention, conflict resolution, and case management techniques. Ability to manage a large caseload, prioritize assignments, meet deadlines, and maintain accurate documentation in accordance with regulations and departmental policies. Ability to counsel, guide, and communicate effectively with youth and families while maintaining appropriate professional boundaries. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with judges, court personnel, law enforcement, schools, service providers, coworkers, clients, and the public. Strong communication, interpersonal, organizational, problem-solving, and decision-making skills. Proficiency in word processing, spreadsheet, database management, case management systems, and other related software applications. Ability to exercise discretion and maintain confidentiality when handling sensitive information.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's degree in Social Services, Criminal Justice, Psychology, or a related field, plus experience working with adolescents and their families. Experience should include knowledge of juvenile laws, custody, and child welfare; counseling or providing supportive services to juveniles and their families; and demonstrated interpersonal, organizational, and decision-making skills. Equivalent combinations of education, training, and experience may be considered when they provide the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the essential functions of the position.
