Job Description

Job summary Groome Transportation is seeking a Training and Safety Manager to lead driver training, safety performance, and regulatory compliance initiatives at the Tuscaloosa, AL operations. This position serves as the senior field leader responsible for the execution of training programs, safety oversight, accident response, and operator performance management. The Training and Safety Manager works closely with Operations, Maintenance, and Human Resources to ensure safe, efficient, and compliant transportation services while promoting a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement. Pay $65,000 - $75,000 range, based on experience Essential Duties and Responsibilities Training and Development Develop, coordinate, and execute driver training schedules and programs. Monitor and ensure compliance with all required training timelines and certifications. Conduct new hire orientation, classroom instruction, safety briefings, and refresher training. Perform ride-alongs, driver observations, and field coaching sessions. Conduct biannual behind-the-wheel evaluations and document performance results. Identify training needs and implement corrective development plans when necessary. Safety and Compliance Lead and support company safety initiatives and programs. Conduct ride checks, field audits, and compliance inspections. Ensure adherence to all company policies, safety standards, and applicable federal, state, and local regulations. Review driver records, training documentation, and safety performance metrics. Investigate safety concerns and provide recommendations to reduce risk and improve operational performance. Employee Performance Management Participate in driver recruitment, interviews, and selection processes. Provide ongoing coaching and mentorship to drivers and operational staff. Administer corrective action, discipline, and performance improvement measures consistent with company policy. Maintain accurate records of training, evaluations, observations, and corrective actions. Incident and Accident Management Manage accident and incident response activities. Coordinate accident investigations and ensure timely reporting requirements are met. Gather statements, review evidence, and prepare required documentation. Work with operations management, insurance representatives, and regulatory agencies as needed. Identify root causes and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence. Operational Support Support daily transportation operations, including special events, peak service periods, and contingency planning. Assist with staffing and operational readiness initiatives. Coordinate closely with Maintenance to address vehicle safety concerns and fleet readiness. Partner with Human Resources regarding onboarding, performance management, and policy compliance. Qualifications and Education Requirements High school diploma or equivalent required; associate's or bachelor's degree preferred. Minimum of two (2) years of experience in public transportation, passenger transportation, transit operations, or a related transportation environment. Valid CDL Class B driver's license with Passenger endorsement required. Demonstrated experience delivering training, coaching employees, and conducting performance evaluations. Experience conducting accident investigations and safety reviews preferred. Strong knowledge of transportation safety practices and regulatory compliance requirements. Proficiency with Microsoft Office and operational software systems. Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills. Ability to successfully complete pre-employment drug screening, background checks, and other required screenings. Preferred Skills Strong leadership and employee development skills. Work Environment Combination of office, maintenance facility, and field work. Frequent interaction with drivers, managers, and operational personnel. May require travel between locations.
