Our team is dedicated to excellence, precision, and collaboration, and we are currently seeking a highly motivated and field-oriented Field Safety Manager to join our Southern California team. This position will primarily support active construction projects in the field and work directly with Project Managers, Superintendents, Foremen, and field employees to promote safe work practices and maintain compliance with Courtney Inc., General Contractor, OSHA, and Cal/OSHA safety requirements. This role is ideal for someone with hands-on construction safety experience who is comfortable spending the majority of their time on active jobsites.

Responsibilities:

Field Safety & Compliance Conduct routine jobsite safety inspections and field observations to identify unsafe conditions, unsafe work practices, and potential hazards. Monitor field operations for compliance with Courtney Inc. safety policies, General Contractor requirements, OSHA, and Cal/OSHA regulations. Document safety observations, deficiencies, and corrective actions and follow up with field supervision to verify corrections have been completed. Maintain stop-work authority when an imminent or serious safety hazard is observed and assist field supervision with implementing practical corrective measures. Reinforce company safety expectations through consistent field presence, communication, and coaching. Field Execution & Coaching Work directly with Superintendents, Foremen, and employees to promote safe work practices while supporting efficient field operations. Participate in pre-task planning, Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), Activity Hazard Analyses (AHAs), and other project-specific safety planning. Assist Foremen and field supervision with identifying hazards before work begins and selecting appropriate controls. Conduct regular field safety walks and communicate findings directly with project supervision. Provide hands-on coaching to employees regarding PPE, fall protection, ladder safety, equipment use, housekeeping, access, and other construction hazards. Follow up on safety concerns and corrective actions until they have been properly addressed. Roofing & Waterproofing Hazard Controls Monitor fall protection requirements including warning lines, guardrails, personal fall arrest systems, anchor points, tie-off practices, and controlled access areas. Inspect and monitor ladder use, roof access, aerial lifts, scaffolds when applicable, and other means of accessing elevated work areas. Monitor hot work operations including torch-applied roofing and other applicable operations to ensure required permits, fire watch procedures, fire extinguishers, and fire prevention measures are in place. Assist with HazCom requirements for roofing and waterproofing products including SDS availability, proper labeling, storage, PPE, and safe handling practices. Monitor silica and dust-control practices when applicable to concrete preparation, cutting, grinding, drilling, or similar activities. Verify appropriate PPE is being used and maintained based on the work activity and identified hazards. Training & Documentation Conduct or assist with new-hire and site-specific safety orientations. Conduct toolbox talks, safety meetings, and field safety training as needed. Assist with tracking employee safety training and required certifications. Maintain accurate documentation of field inspections, safety observations, corrective actions, training, permits, and other required jobsite safety records. Assist with maintaining project safety documentation so records remain organized and audit-ready. Communicate upcoming certification or training needs to management. GC / Project Coordination Communicate with General Contractor safety representatives and project supervision regarding daily safety requirements and jobsite concerns. Attend project safety meetings when required. Assist with project start-up safety requirements, site-specific safety plans, JHAs, emergency procedures, and required safety documentation. Help ensure Courtney Inc. field operations remain compliant with project-specific General Contractor requirements. Communicate safety deficiencies or concerns to Courtney Inc. management and field supervision in a timely manner. Incident & Corrective Action Support Respond to jobsite incidents, injuries, property damage, and near-miss events as directed. Assist with gathering photographs, employee statements, witness information, and other documentation needed for incident investigations. Assist management with identifying contributing factors and corrective actions following incidents or near misses. Monitor implemented corrective actions in the field to ensure they remain effective. Immediately communicate serious incidents or hazards to appropriate Courtney Inc. management. Equipment & Jobsite Safety Monitor safe use of ladders, aerial lifts, forklifts/telehandlers, power tools, and other construction equipment. Verify required equipment inspections are being completed. Monitor housekeeping, material storage, access/egress, barricades, warning lines, and jobsite organization. Assist with PPE inspections and distribution as needed. Promote safe vehicle, equipment, and material-handling practices in the field.

Requirements:

o Minimum of 5 years of construction safety experience, preferably supporting commercial construction projects. o Roofing, waterproofing, sheet metal, or similar specialty-trade construction experience strongly preferred. o OSHA 30-Hour Construction/CPR First Aid certifications required. o Working knowledge of OSHA and Cal/OSHA construction safety regulations and common jobsite safety requirements. o Experience conducting jobsite inspections, identifying hazards, documenting deficiencies, and following corrective actions through completion. o Understanding of fall protection requirements and the ability to recognize common fall hazards associated with commercial roofing and construction operations. o Ability to communicate safety requirements effectively with Foremen, Superintendents, Project Managers, General Contractors, and field employees. o Ability to stop work when an imminent hazard exists and work with field supervision to ensure appropriate corrective measures are implemented before work resumes. o Ability to assist with incident investigations, gather relevant information, document findings, and support corrective action implementation. o Ability to review and assist field supervision with JHAs, pre-task plans, and other jobsite hazard assessments. Preferred Credentials CHST certification or other recognized construction safety credentials preferred, but not required.

Comfortable working primarily in an active construction environment. Safely and correctly climb ladders, access rooftops, work at heights, and walk active construction sites including uneven surfaces. Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and around active construction equipment. Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to coach employees respectfully and effectively. Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with Foremen, Superintendents, Project Managers, General Contractors, and field employees. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. Ability to independently manage daily field safety responsibilities and prioritize multiple active jobsites. Ability to accurately document field observations, corrective actions, inspections, and training. Proficient with MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and comfortable using electronic safety documentation and tracking systems. Ability to maintain confidentiality regarding employee and company-sensitive information. Valid driver's license and ability to travel between jobsites throughout Southern California. Occasional travel or overnight stays may be required based on project needs.
