Boulder Job Summary The Assistant Quality Manager supports the Plant Manager in overseeing and maintaining the facility's Food Safety and Quality Management Systems in compliance with
HACCP, FSMA
Preventive Controls (PCQI), and GFSI-recognized standards such as SQF, BRC, or equivalent. This role serves as the primary QA Contact in the facility, and assists in ensuring regulatory compliance, audit readiness, and continuous improvement to produce safe, legal, and high-quality food products. Key Responsibilities Food Safety & Quality Systems Assist in developing, implementing, and maintaining HACCP and FSMA Food Safety Plans Support the Preventive Controls Qualified Individual (PCQI) with hazard analysis, preventive controls, monitoring, verification, and validation activities Assist in maintaining compliance with GFSI standards (SQF, BRC, or similar), including prerequisite programs (PRPs) and quality modules Monitor GMP, sanitation, allergen, and environmental control programs Regulatory & Audit Compliance Support GFSI certification audits, customer audits, and regulatory inspections (FDA, state, or local authorities) Assist in the investigation and documentation of deviations, nonconformances, and CAPAs Help ensure compliance with FSMA regulations, including supply-chain controls, recall readiness, and food defense/fraud programs Production & Operations Support Partner with Production, Sanitation, Maintenance, and Warehouse teams to ensure food safety and quality requirements are met Assist with product holds, releases, and disposition of non-conforming product Support root cause analysis and continuous improvement initiatives related to food safety or quality issues Training & Food Safety Culture Assist in training employees on HACCP, FSMA, GMPs, allergen control, sanitation, and food safety awareness Reinforce a strong food safety culture through daily plant-floor engagement and coaching Documentation, Data & Reporting Maintain accurate food safety and quality records in compliance with HACCP, FSMA, and GFSI requirements Assist in internal audits, document control, and management review preparation Track, trend, and report quality metrics, audit findings, and customer complaints to Plant Management Qualifications Education Bachelor's degree in Food Science, Microbiology, Biology, Chemistry, or a related discipline (preferred) Experience 3-5 years of experience in Quality Assurance / Food Safety in a food manufacturing environment Hands-on experience with HACCP and FSMA Preventive Controls Experience working in a GFSI-certified facility (SQF, BRC, or equivalent) Bilingual in Spanish is strongly preferred Certifications (Preferred) PCQI certification HACCP certification SQF or BRC Practitioner training Skills & Competencies Strong knowledge of
FSMA, HACCP
principles, and GFSI standards Experience with audits, CAPA management, and root cause analysis Strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills Ability to work cross-functionally in a fast-paced manufacturing environment Proficiency with Microsoft Office and quality management systems Physical & Work Environment Requirements Ability to work in a food manufacturing environment with exposure to temperature variations, noise, and production equipment Ability to stand, walk, and conduct plant inspections for extended periods Flexibility to support off-shift production, sanitation, and audit activities
