Full-Time | Management About Southern Paving & Milling Southern Paving & Milling is a growing infrastructure construction company specializing in asphalt milling, paving, concrete, and pavement maintenance. We operate throughout the Southeast and are committed to building a safety-first culture while delivering high-quality work for our public and private customers. We are looking for a hands-on Safety Managerwho will take ownership of our safety program and work directly with our field operations to continuously improve safety performance. This is not a desk-only position. The successful candidate will spend significant time in the field, working with project managers, superintendents, foremen, and crews to identify risks, provide training, enforce standards, and build a culture where safety is everyone's responsibility. Location Fort Myers, Florida / Southwest Florida Travel throughout our Florida operations and occasional travel to other company locations in GA, NC, and SC will be required. Position Summary The Safety Manager will be responsible for developing, implementing, and managing company-wide safety programs for our milling, paving, concrete, and construction operations. The ideal candidate is a strong field leader and communicator who can earn the trust of our crews while maintaining high safety standards. This individual must be willing to get out of the office and into the field to understand how our work is actually being performed. Key Responsibilities Manage and continuously improve the company's safety program. Conduct regular jobsite safety inspections and audits. Identify hazards and implement corrective actions. Work closely with project managers, superintendents, foremen, and field crews. Conduct and coordinate safety training, toolbox talks, and companywide safety meetings. Develop and maintain OSHA-compliant safety policies and procedures. Ensure compliance with OSHA, DOT, FDOT, MUTCD, and applicable federal, state, and local regulations. Investigate workplace accidents, incidents, and near misses and develop corrective action plans. Maintain safety records, reports, inspections, training documentation, and OSHA logs. Monitor leading and lagging safety indicators and provide regular reporting to company leadership. Assist management with workers' compensation claims and return-to-work processes. Conduct new employee safety orientations. Assist with safety requirements for subcontractors and vendors. Review Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), Activity Hazard Analyses (AHAs), and project-specific safety plans. Help ensure proper use of PPE, traffic control, equipment, and safe work practices. Participate in preconstruction and project planning meetings to identify safety risks before work begins. Promote a proactive safety culture rather than simply reacting to incidents. Stay current on changes to OSHA regulations, industry standards, and best practices. Support company leadership in establishing measurable safety goals and accountability. What We're Looking For 5+ years of safety experience , preferably in heavy highway, asphalt paving, milling, concrete, or civil construction. Strong working knowledge of OSHA regulations and construction safety requirements. Experience conducting jobsite inspections and accident investigations. Experience developing and delivering safety training. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to work effectively with both management and field employees. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. Ability to travel between jobsites and company locations. Comfortable working outdoors and around heavy construction equipment. Proficiency with Microsoft Office and safety documentation systems. Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record. Preferred Qualifications OSHA 30 certification. CHST, CSP, ASP, or other recognized safety certification. Experience with FDOT or roadway construction. Experience with heavy equipment, traffic control, asphalt paving, milling, or concrete operations. Experience managing workers' compensation and insurance-related safety matters. Experience developing companywide safety metrics and dashboards. The Right Candidate We are looking for someone who is more than a safety enforcer.
