Plant Manager / Site Director Position Summary The Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Manager is responsible for developing, implementing, and managing all environmental, health, safety, and regulatory compliance programs for a manufacturing and distribution facility producing windshield washer fluid and related automotive care products. This role ensures compliance with federal, state, and local regulations while promoting a proactive safety culture that protects employees, contractors, visitors, company assets, and the environment. The EHS Manager will support both manufacturing operations involving flammable liquids, chemical handling, blending, packaging, and warehousing, as well as distribution center activities including material handling, shipping, receiving, and transportation operations. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Safety Leadership Lead site safety initiatives and foster a culture of zero incidents. Develop and implement EHS policies, procedures, and safe work practices. Conduct routine safety inspections and audits of manufacturing, warehouse, and office areas. Facilitate incident investigations and root cause analyses. Track and report safety metrics including TRIR, DART, near misses, and corrective actions. Lead the facility Safety Committee and related employee engagement programs. Coordinate contractor safety management programs. Environmental Compliance Ensure compliance with applicable environmental regulations including: EPA State environmental agencies Local permitting authorities Manage hazardous waste, universal waste, used oil, and recycling programs. Maintain Spill Prevention, Control, and Countermeasure (SPCC) plans. Oversee stormwater compliance and SWPPP requirements. Manage air permits, wastewater permits, and environmental reporting obligations. Coordinate environmental inspections and regulatory agency interactions. Chemical and Process Safety Manage chemical safety programs for windshield washer fluid and associated raw materials. Ensure proper storage, labeling, and handling of: Methanol Ethanol Isopropanol Glycols Colorants and additives Maintain Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and chemical inventories. Support hazard communication (HazCom) compliance. Evaluate process risks involving flammable and combustible liquids. Partner with Engineering to ensure compliance with fire codes and chemical storage requirements. Regulatory Compliance Ensure compliance with applicable OSHA standards, including: Hazard Communication Powered Industrial Trucks Lockout/Tagout Respiratory Protection Personal Protective Equipment Emergency Action Planning Walking/Working Surfaces Industrial Hygiene Programs Maintain required records and regulatory documentation. Coordinate OSHA inspections and responses. Training & Development Develop and deliver EHS training programs for all employees. Conduct onboarding safety training for new hires. Coordinate annual refresher training requirements. Ensure forklift certifications remain current. Build employee engagement through awareness campaigns and safety observations. Emergency Preparedness Develop and maintain emergency response plans. Coordinate fire drills and spill response exercises. Serve as site Emergency Response Coordinator. Work closely with local fire departments, emergency responders, and regulatory agencies. Manage incident command activities during emergencies. Distribution Center Support Monitor warehouse safety compliance. Ensure safe operation of forklifts and material handling equipment. Evaluate storage configurations for flammable liquids and packaged goods. Monitor dock safety, traffic flow, and pedestrian safety programs. Support DOT-related compliance activities as needed. Continuous Improvement Identify opportunities to reduce workplace risk and environmental impact. Lead corrective and preventive action programs. Support Lean Manufacturing and operational excellence initiatives. Participate in capital projects to ensure EHS requirements are incorporated into facility design.
Qualifications Education Required:
Associates or Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Engineering, or a related field and a minimum of three years experience. Certified Safety Professional (CSP)
Experience Required:
Experience managing OSHA and environmental compliance programs. Experience with chemical manufacturing, blending, or flammable liquid operations.
Preferred:
Experience in consumer products, automotive fluids, chemical processing, or FMCG manufacturing. Experience supporting greenfield or startup facilities. Multi-site experience. Strong incident investigation and root cause analysis skills. Ability to influence and lead at all levels of the organization. Excellent communication and presentation skills. Proficiency with Microsoft Office and EHS management systems. Strong project management abilities. Physical Requirements Ability to work in manufacturing and warehouse environments. Ability to wear required PPE. Frequent walking throughout production and distribution areas. Ability to climb stairs, ladders, and access elevated work areas. Ability to lift up to 25 pounds occasionally.
