Our client is seeking an EHS Manager to lead health, safety, security, and emergency preparedness initiatives at a large food manufacturing facility. This is a high-visibility leadership role that sits on the Site Leadership Team and partners closely with Operations, Maintenance, Engineering, HR, Quality, Food Safety, and other functional leaders to build a proactive safety culture across the plant. The successful candidate will be a strong change leader and safety subject matter expert who can influence employees at all levels, drive accountability, and continuously improve health and safety performance.
Key Responsibilities:
Serve as a member of the Site Leadership Team, providing strategic direction and leadership for health, safety, security, emergency preparedness, and crisis management. Lead the development of a proactive safety culture where employees at all levels take ownership and accountability for safe behaviors and conditions. Partner with plant leadership and employees to drive a culture of caring and reinforce the belief that zero harm is achievable. Lead, develop, and provide direction to the site's Safety Coordinator(s), while partnering closely with regional Health & Safety leadership. Ensure compliance with federal, state/provincial, and local health & safety regulations and requirements. Serve as the primary plant representative during regulatory visits, inspections, and interactions with governmental agencies. Develop and implement health & safety processes, procedures, and programs that ensure compliance with company standards and regulatory requirements. Act as a strategic partner, change leader, performance coach, and functional subject matter expert to drive behavior-based safety, injury prevention, and continuous improvement. Partner with Operations, Engineering, Maintenance, Food Safety, Quality, and other plant functions to ensure capital projects, new products, and operational initiatives incorporate health & safety and injury-prevention objectives. Implement the company's health & safety management systems, including Key Elements of Safety (KES), cultural assessments, supervisor training, and employee engagement initiatives. Facilitate employee safety committees and provide leadership and resources for departmental health & safety meetings. Develop and utilize leading and lagging safety indicators to measure performance, identify trends, and drive continuous improvement. Incorporate continuous improvement methodologies into the health & safety function, including participation in Kaizen events and other improvement initiatives. Partner with Human Resources to manage Workers' Compensation and employee injury-related processes. Develop budgets and execute programs designed to prevent workplace injuries and illnesses and improve overall employee well-being. Oversee plant security programs, systems, audits, and the security team while ensuring compliance with company and governmental requirements. Support Food Safety & Security initiatives as needed. Maintain the plant's emergency action and crisis management plans and ensure the leadership team is prepared to respond effectively to emergencies. Develop and conduct periodic emergency and crisis response drills to ensure organizational readiness. Build strong relationships throughout the facility and serve as a trusted health & safety resource for employees and leadership.
Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health & Safety, a related discipline, or Certified Safety Professional (CSP) designation. 7+ years of progressive and applicable health & safety experience. Strong experience within a manufacturing environment; food manufacturing experience is highly preferred. Working knowledge of federal and state/provincial occupational health & safety regulations and Workers' Compensation/WorkSafe requirements. Proven ability to influence leaders and employees at all levels and drive meaningful behavioral and cultural change. Experience leading safety programs, continuous improvement initiatives, and injury-prevention strategies. Strong understanding of health & safety management systems and regulatory compliance. ISO Management Systems experience is preferred. Experience with health & safety and/or HR information systems. Strong training and employee-development experience. Bilingual language skills are a plus. Hands-on, proactive leadership style with the ability to build relationships, coach others, and drive accountability. Strong communication, change-management, and influencing skills are essential.
Compensation:
$100,000 - $130,000 base salary plus eligibility to earn a bonus
