Job Description

Position Summary The Safety Manager leads safety and health efforts for mining operations supported from Marion, Illinois. This field-focused role partners with employees, supervisors, customers, and regulators to prevent injuries, maintain compliance, and strengthen a practical, accountability-based safety culture. Key Responsibilities Lead and continuously improve safety programs in accordance with company, customer, MSHA, and other applicable requirements. Conduct field audits, workplace examinations, job observations, and risk assessments; document findings and verify corrective actions. Coach employees and leaders on hazard recognition, safe work practices, stop-work responsibility, and high-risk activities. Develop, deliver, and track new-hire, refresher, task, equipment, and site-specific safety training. Investigate injuries, incidents, near misses, and property damage; identify root causes and ensure sustainable corrective measures. Maintain required safety records, training documentation, inspection reports, incident files, and regulatory submissions. Analyze safety trends and performance indicators, communicate results, and recommend targeted improvements. Support regulatory inspections, customer audits, emergency preparedness, safety meetings, and field operations. Travel to mines, project sites, offices, and training locations as business needs require. Required Qualifications Five or more years of safety experience in mining, heavy industry, construction, or a related environment. Working knowledge of MSHA requirements, hazard identification, incident investigation, and corrective-action management. Strong leadership, coaching, communication, organization, and problem-solving skills. Proficiency with Microsoft Office and electronic safety, training, inspection, and reporting systems. Valid driver's license, acceptable driving record, and ability to work flexible hours and travel as needed. Preferred Qualifications Bachelor's degree in occupational safety, mining, engineering, industrial hygiene, or a related field. Experience supporting underground and/or surface mining operations and multi-site teams. MSHA-approved instructor credentials and/or a professional certification such as CSP, ASP, CHST, or CMSP. Physical Demands and Work Environment This position requires routine work in active mining and industrial environments. The employee must be able to wear required PPE, walk on uneven terrain, climb stairs and ladders, and work around noise, dust, vibration, moving equipment, and changing weather conditions. Pay:
$75,000.00 - $105,000.00 per year
