Basic Job Functions:
The Safety Intern will support the Safety team in promoting and maintaining a safe work environment within NSBB. This role provides hands-on experience in industrial safety practices, hazard identification, and safety technology initiatives, while assisting with daily safety operations and special projects. Safety is the most important part of all jobs within Nucor; therefore, candidates must be able to demonstrate the ability to initiate, lead, and uphold safety policies, practices, procedures, and housekeeping standards at all times.
Key Responsibilities:
Assist with safety inspections, audits, and risk mitigation Support root cause analysis, and corrective action tracking. Help update and maintain safety procedures, training materials, and documentation. Participate in safety meetings, toolbox talks, and team mate engagement activities. Analyze safety data and trends to identify improvement opportunities. Support implementation and evaluation of proximity detection systems to enhance mobile equipment and pedestrian safety. Assist with AI-related safety initiatives, including evaluating technology applications that improve hazard recognition, monitoring, and risk mitigation. Collaborate with operations, maintenance, and leadership to promote a strong safety culture. This internship provides practical experience in manufacturing safety while contributing to innovative projects that leverage AI and proximity detection technology to improve workplace safety. Minimum Qualifications:
Currently pursuing a degree in Occupational Safety, Engineering, Industrial Technology, Data Analytics, or a related field. Strong interest in industrial/manufacturing safety and emerging safety technologies. Basic understanding of safety principles and regulatory standards (OSHA knowledge preferred). Proficient in Microsoft Office; familiarity with data analysis tools is a plus. Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
