is seeking an experienced Safety & Operator Qualification (OQ) Manager to lead safety, incident management, and employee qualification programs across our hydrovac and utility construction operations. Candidates must have direct experience managing safety incidents and workplace injuries from initial response through investigation, reporting, corrective action, and follow-up—not simply conducting safety meetings or maintaining certifications.
Take ownership of injuries, vehicle accidents, utility damages, and near misses. Coordinate immediate response and appropriate medical care, collect evidence and witness statements, determine root causes, and implement corrective actions.
Recordable Injury Management:
Accurately evaluate injury recordability, including first aid versus medical treatment beyond first aid, restricted-duty cases, and days-away cases. Maintain
OSHA/MIOSHA
300, 300A, and 301 records and meet applicable reporting requirements. Understand the distinction between recording an injury and reporting a serious incident directly to the agency.
Claims & Return-to-Work Coordination:
Work with injured employees, medical providers, human resources, and insurance carriers to manage workers' compensation claims, document medical restrictions, and coordinate safe return-to-work assignments consistent with those restrictions.
Field Safety Leadership:
Conduct jobsite inspections, safety meetings, employee training, and audits. Address unsafe practices, exercise stop-work authority when necessary, and verify corrective actions are completed.
OQ Program Management:
Coordinate employee training, evaluations, renewals, and qualification records. Verify qualifications against customer requirements before employees perform assigned covered tasks.
Customer & Leadership Communication:
Serve as the safety/OQ contact for customers, support audits, track safety performance and injury trends, and promptly notify senior leadership of incidents, regulatory contacts, and unresolved concerns. Qualifications Demonstrated safety leadership experience in hydrovac, underground utility, pipeline, or construction operations. Strong working knowledge of
OSHA/MIOSHA
requirements, incident investigations, injury recordkeeping, and OQ administration. Must be organized, responsive, comfortable working with field crews, and able to manage an incident independently.
Preferred:
Consumers Energy project experience, MEA/EnergyU familiarity, and relevant safety or OQ evaluator credentials. Applicants should be prepared to discuss an incident they personally managed, including the response, recordability determination, reporting, and final resolution.
Pay:
$65,000.00 - $100,000.00 per year
