About the Role The Director of Safety leads K&M Concrete Construction's safety, health, and environmental programs. K&M believes safety is driven by culture, not compliance; therefore, this role builds a proactive safety culture grounded in training, communication, accountability, workforce development, and continuous improvement, with compliance serving as a byproduct of that culture rather than the goal itself. Safety is paramount to the work we perform and strengthens our ability to compete at an elevated level in the construction industry. The Director of Safety holds Leadership and Management Accountability (LMA) for the Safety Department, including the leadership, development, and performance of Site Safety Managers. Working with executive leadership, operations, project teams, supervisors, and employees, this position reduces hazards, prevents incidents, and supports safe, compliant jobsites. A key measure of success is maintaining an Experience Modification Rate (EMR) below industry standards, protecting employees, strengthening customer confidence, and supporting K&M's long-term growth and profitability. What You'll Do 1. Safety Leadership & Department Accountability

• Provide LMA for the Safety Department, including leadership, coaching, development, and performance management of Site Safety Managers.
• Develop and execute K&M's safety vision, strategy, annual objectives, priorities, metrics, and accountability systems.
• Serve as the company's subject matter expert on safety, health, environmental, and risk management matters.
• Partner with leadership to keep safety a core business priority and strategic advantage.
• Build a scalable safety organization that supports company growth while maintaining strong safety performance. 2. Safety Culture & Workforce Development
• Champion a people-first safety culture built on personal responsibility, accountability, and continuous improvement.
• Create and maintain an environment where every employee is equipped to return home safely each day.
• Develop safety leadership capabilities across all levels, including laborers, operators, foremen, superintendents, project managers, and executives.
• Elevate workforce knowledge and competency through education, mentoring, coaching, and leadership development.
• Encourage employees to identify hazards, report near misses, and participate in solving safety challenges. 3. Strategic Safety Program Management
• Own the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of company safety, health, and environmental programs.
• Ensure programs meet or exceed OSHA and regulatory requirements while supporting operational excellence.
• Establish safety indicators to measure performance and identify improvement opportunities.
• Develop scalable systems, policies, and processes that support growth and geographic expansion.
• Integrate safety planning into project execution and maintain required documentation, records, and reporting. 4. Operational Risk Management & Field Excellence
• Ensure Site Safety Managers provide consistent and effective jobsite safety oversight.
• Set standards for audits, inspections, observations, corrective actions, and hazard mitigation.
• Provide direction for high-risk construction activities, including concrete operations, rigging, excavation, fall protection, equipment operations, silica exposure, and confined spaces.
• Analyze project trends, identify systemic risks, and drive consistent execution of K&M safety standards. 5. Training, Education & Competency Development
• Develop and oversee K&M's safety education and training strategy.
• Ensure employees receive appropriate safety training throughout each stage of their career.
• Create pathways for frontline employees, supervisors, and managers to improve safety knowledge and leadership capabilities.
• Partner with operations to identify competency gaps and implement targeted development plans.
• Evaluate training effectiveness and support workforce development initiatives. 6. Incident Prevention & Continuous Improvement
• Lead incident prevention through proactive risk identification, trend analysis, and corrective action management.
• Ensure incidents, injuries, near misses, property damage events, and significant safety observations are thoroughly investigated.
• Oversee root cause analysis and ensure corrective actions are implemented and sustained.
• Review safety performance data, present trends and recommendations to leadership, and drive continuous improvement. 7. Risk Management, Insurance & Business Performance
• Partner with leadership, insurance providers, and external stakeholders to manage organizational risk.
• Develop strategies to maintain an EMR that consistently outperforms industry averages.
• Reduce the financial, operational, and reputational risks associated with workplace incidents.
• Ensure safety performance supports K&M's ability to compete for premier projects and customers.
• Position K&M as a recognized leader in construction safety excellence. Required Qualifications
• Minimum five (5) years of progressive construction safety leadership experience, including safety program development and management in commercial construction.

OSHA 510

completion and

OSHA 500

Authorized Construction Trainer certification, or the qualifications and ability to obtain

within six (6) months and

OSHA 500

within twelve (12) months of hire.

• Certified First Aid/CPR/AED Instructor or willingness and ability to obtain instructor certification within six (6) months of hire.
• Strong knowledge of OSHA regulations, construction safety practices, risk management, incident investigation, and safety training methods.
• Experience leading, developing, coaching, and holding accountable safety professionals and direct reports.
• Demonstrated passion for employee development and ability to educate, coach, and elevate workforce capabilities through training, mentoring, and leadership development.
• Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
• Bilingual English/Spanish communication skills.
• Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
• Ability to develop and deliver engaging training programs for diverse audiences.
• Ability and willingness to travel to support company operations, training, and jobsite activities.
• Valid driver's license and insurable driving record.
• Ability to pass a pre-employment background check.
• Ability to work safely in all weather conditions and typical active construction environments.

Preferred Qualifications Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Construction Health and Safety Technician (CHST), Occupational Health and Safety Technologist (OHST), or similar professional certification.
