Job Title:
EHS Manager Job Description The EHS Manager serves as a hands-on, operationally focused safety leader responsible for driving a proactive safety culture across multiple manufacturing and warehouse locations. This role ensures regulatory compliance, reduces operational risk, and standardizes safety programs across all shifts in a fast-paced food manufacturing environment. Partnering closely with cross-functional teams, the EHS Manager develops and implements safety procedures, training programs, emergency response protocols, and corrective action initiatives, while also overseeing site security operations and vendors with a primary focus on occupational health, safety, and compliance. Responsibilities Lead and champion a proactive safety culture across multiple manufacturing and warehouse facilities, ensuring consistent standards and practices across all shifts. Ensure compliance with OSHA, FDA, and GMP regulations in manufacturing and warehouse environments, including participation in regulatory, customer, insurance, and third-party audits. Provide hands-on safety leadership on the production floor in fast-paced, multi-shift food manufacturing operations. Oversee safe handling and storage of chemicals, compressed gases, and sanitation chemicals, including SDS management, spill response procedures, and emergency containment measures. Conduct thorough incident investigations using root cause analysis, and track corrective actions to reduce risk and prevent recurrence. Support workers' compensation processes, including incident documentation, follow-up, and return-to-work initiatives. Develop, implement, and maintain safety-related Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and policies for manufacturing and warehouse operations. Create and deliver safety training programs, including onboarding, forklift safety, lockout/tagout (LOTO), personal protective equipment (PPE), ergonomics, and emergency response training. Develop, maintain, and test emergency action plans, including drills, evacuation procedures, and life safety systems compliance. Essential Skills 3-5+ years of safety leadership experience in manufacturing, food production, distribution, or industrial environments. Bachelor's degree in Safety, Environmental Health and Safety (EHS), Industrial Hygiene, or a related field, or equivalent experience. Strong knowledge of OSHA standards and their application in manufacturing and warehouse operations. Experience with workers' compensation processes and return-to-work programs. Hands-on experience leading safety programs in fast-paced, multi-shift operations. Proven ability to develop and deliver safety training, including SOPs, onboarding, and job-specific safety topics. Experience with chemical safety, including handling, storage, SDS management, and spill response. Additional Skills & Qualifications Prior team leadership or supervisory experience in safety or operations is preferred. Experience in food and beverage manufacturing environments, including food safety and sanitation practices. Familiarity with FDA and GMP compliance requirements in production and warehouse settings. Audit participation experience with regulatory bodies, customers, insurance providers, or third-party standards such as SEDEX is a plus. First Aid and CPR certification, or the ability to obtain these certifications. Bilingual English/Spanish language skills are preferred. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with Operations, Engineering, Warehouse, HR, Quality, and Security teams. Strong facilitation skills for leading safety meetings, trainings, and emergency drills. Job Type & Location This is a Permanent position based out of Burlington, NC.
