Job Description

General Description:
To lead the food safety department of 20 employees in order to maintain the highest standards of food safety and cleanliness throughout the plant. To commit to continuous improvement in cleaning practices, work order fulfillment, cleaning supply inventory and availability throughout the plant. To encourage a heightened awareness of food safety by continuously training members of the food safety crew as well as all other workers in the plant.
Job Requirements:
Direct and coordinate all food safety activities within the plant including: pest control, microbiological testing, maintaining and enhancing food safety standards, GMP's, SSOP's and HACCP. This includes extensive training for plant employees in each of these key areas to enforce a culture of food safety. Direct and coordinate all GMP related programs, policies and procedures including monthly plant audits, monthly meetings and documentation of results. Coordinate and supervise preparation for and execution of all food safety audits w/AIB, RIDOH and FDA and insure compliance w/all regulations. Maintain and manage all work schedules of food safety personnel in a cost effective manner. Manage and direct fulfillment of all work orders in the food safety department in a cost effective manner and in accordance w/the Master Sanitation Schedule. Provide job training and education of staff to insure proper execution of daily tasks and basic elements of the Food Safety program. Conduct purchasing activities and inventory management of food safety supplies in a cost effective manner and in accordance w/company standards. Responsible for participating in all activities set out by the company in support of the Food Safety Modernization Act. Actively participate in tri-weekly management staff meetings to promote food safety goals and provide inter-departmental guidance on company initiatives. Work in concert w/the BRC Training & Compliance Manager to ensure that all food safety policies and procedures adhere to the highest level of food safety in the industry. Everyone has responsibility to support and follow our Food Safety and Food Defense programs. Engage in any other activities or projects that may be required.
Job Qualifications:
Associate degree or better from a college program. Minimum of 5 years experience in the food and beverage industry. Demonstrable familiarity with current GFSI, AIB and HACCP standards and requirements. Experience with AIB or equal audits. Spanish as a second language is preferred.
Physical Requirements:
Bend to grasp objects and ability to climb ladders Bend and lift loads not to exceed 50 pounds unassisted or 100 pounds with assistance Work in very hot temperatures (>90 degrees F) seasonally Must be able to work a variety of shifts including weekends, evenings and holidays Ability to work in a noisy environment with the possibility of being exposed to flour, gluten, eggs and wheat via inhalant or food handling
