Job Description

Responsibilities HazTek Safety Management is seeking an experienced Construction Safety Manager to provide owner-side field safety oversight at a large pharmaceutical facility in Rahway, NJ. This position will support active construction and CQV (Commissioning, Qualification, and Validation) activities, including commissioning, qualification, validation, system turnover, equipment startup, and the transition of systems into operations. The ideal candidate will be a hands-on safety professional who can maintain a strong field presence, coach contractors, recognize changing project risks, and promote a Zero Harm work environment. Responsibilities Provide field safety oversight for contractors, project teams, and EPCM partners Maintain a visible presence across active construction and CQV work areas Coach contractor leadership, supervisors, safety professionals, and craft personnel on hazard recognition and risk management Review JSAs, SPAs, permits, and high-risk work plans to ensure hazards and controls are properly addressed Conduct documented field inspections and safety walks Track safety deficiencies and verify timely corrective-action closure Support incident investigations, root-cause analysis, CAPA development, and effectiveness reviews Monitor safety observations, near misses, incidents, leading indicators, KPIs, and contractor safety performance Participate in project orientations, safety meetings, peer audits, and contractor safety reviews Support construction completion, system turnover, commissioning-readiness, qualification-readiness, and Management of Change activities Evaluate risks associated with system energization, equipment startup, functional testing, pressure testing, flushing, cleaning, chemical introduction, and temporary system configurations Help verify system ownership, hazardous-energy-control boundaries, work authorizations, permits, and escalation procedures Identify risks created by simultaneous construction, commissioning, qualification, maintenance, and operational activities Stop work and escalate concerns when an imminent hazard or unacceptable risk is identified Qualifications Minimum of six years of construction safety experience, including contractor oversight in active project environments

required Strong knowledge of OSHA construction standards and applicable state and local safety requirements Experience reviewing high-risk work plans, permits, JSAs, SPAs, and field controls Experience supporting incident investigations, root-cause analysis, corrective actions, and closure tracking Strong field hazard-recognition and problem-solving abilities Ability to coach and influence contractors, craft personnel, supervisors, project teams, and site leadership Strong organizational, written, and verbal communication skills Proficiency with Microsoft Office and safety-performance reporting Ability to work onsite and periodically support alternate shifts, shutdowns, startups, or other critical project activities Overview HazTek Safety Management is a full-service, objective safety partner, founded in 1997.
