Job Description
Nassau Provisions is seeking an experienced and proactive Safety & Claims Manager to lead and strengthen our company-wide safety culture. This role is primarily focused on transportation safety, DOT compliance, fleet and driver oversight, accident prevention, and claims management. Approximately 75% of the role is dedicated to transportation safety and compliance, 15% to claims investigation and administration, and 10% to warehouse safety oversight. The Safety & Claims Manager will work closely with operations leadership, employees, insurance carriers, medical providers, and legal representatives to ensure claims are handled effectively and brought to timely resolution. The ideal candidate will bring hands-on experience from a food distribution, transportation, logistics, or warehouse environment. This individual must be highly organized, field-oriented, and capable of building strong relationships with drivers, warehouse associates, supervisors, and senior leadership. Key Responsibilities Transportation Safety & Compliance (75%) Lead all transportation safety initiatives for company drivers, fleet operations, and delivery teams Ensure compliance with DOT, FMCSA, OSHA, and applicable state and local transportation regulations Conduct ride-alongs, in field driver observations, pre-employment driving tests, and route safety evaluations Investigate vehicle accidents, injuries, and near-miss incidents; determine root causes and implement corrective actions Coordinate post-accident investigations, reporting, and retraining programs Develop and conduct ongoing driver safety training, defensive driving programs, and new driver onboarding Monitor safety KPIs, insurance claims, and fleet incident trends Lead regular transportation safety meetings Review driver qualification files, MVRs, hours-of-service compliance, and other transportation-related safety documentation Claims Management & Investigation (15%) Investigate and manage Workers' Compensation, vehicle accident, property damage, liability, cargo, and other company-related claims Conduct incident investigations, gather statements, review evidence, and determine root causes related to claims and loss events Coordinate with insurance carriers, adjusters, attorneys, medical providers, and third-party investigators as needed throughout the claims process Support claim reviews, insurance audits, and loss-control initiatives with carriers and brokers Assist in identifying potentially fraudulent or questionable claims while ensuring fair and compliant claim handling practices Warehouse Safety Oversight (10%) Support warehouse safety compliance programs across receiving, selection, loading, sanitation, and equipment operations Conduct facility safety audits, hazard assessments, and OSHA inspections Monitor PPE usage, forklift certification programs, lockout/tagout procedures, and warehouse best practices Partner with warehouse leadership to ensure safe operating procedures are consistently followed Coordinate safety committee meetings and employee engagement initiatives Administrative & Leadership Duties Maintain accurate safety records, training documentation, compliance reports, and claims-related records Track safety metrics, claim activity, and incident trends and prepare reports for leadership review Stay current on changing DOT, OSHA, Workers' Compensation, and transportation safety regulations Serve as the primary internal resource for transportation safety, claims management, and operational safety matters Assist leadership in developing and maintaining company-wide safety initiatives and loss prevention strategies Qualifications 3-5+ years of safety experience in transportation, food distribution, logistics, warehouse operations, claims management, or a similar environment Having a CDL Class A is
STRONGLY
preferred Strong knowledge of DOT/FMCSA
regulations and OSHA standards Experience conducting accident investigations and root cause analysis Experience managing or assisting with Workers' Compensation, vehicle accident, liability, or property damage claims Strong investigative, documentation, and case management skills Familiarity with warehouse operations, fleet safety, and food distribution environments Experience leading safety training programs and compliance initiatives Strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills Delivery driver experience Preferred Qualifications CDL Class A OSHA certification, DOT certification, or related safety credentials a plus Experience in foodservice distribution environments strongly preferred Experience working directly with insurance carriers, claims administrators, or risk management programs preferred Physical & Work Environment Requirements Frequent walking through warehouse and transportation areas Ability to work in refrigerated, freezer, and dry warehouse environments Occasional lifting up to 25 pounds Ability to travel locally between facilities or accompany drivers on routes as needed Flexible schedule availability, including early mornings or occasional evenings when required What We Offer Competitive salary based on experience Health, dental, and vision benefits Paid time off and holidays Pay:
