A Food Safety Manager is responsible for ensuring compliance with all food safety matters, legislative and regulatory, relating to an organization's day to day operations. Food manufacturer in the Middletown, NY area is seeking a Sanitation Manager who is responsible for leading, directing, and coordinating all sanitation activities across the facility to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. This role provides strategic and hands-on leadership to the sanitation team, ensuring a culture of safety, quality, and continuous improvement. The ideal candidate will be fluently bilingual (English/Spanish), hold an active SQF Certification, and possess deep experience managing sanitation in a USDA-regulated environment.
Key Responsibilities Team Leadership:
Supervise, train, and mentor a multi-shift sanitation team. Conduct performance evaluations, manage scheduling, and lead daily huddles.
Bilingual Communication:
Deliver safety training, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and operational goals fluently in both English and Spanish to ensure complete alignment and safety compliance across the workforce.
Regulatory & Audit Readiness:
Serve as the sanitation subject matter expert during regulatory inspections (USDA/FSIS, FDA) and third-party food safety audits (SQF). Maintain meticulous documentation, including Master Sanitation Schedules (MSS) and daily pre-operational logs.
Sanitation Program Management:
Oversee and optimize all Sanitation Standard Operating Procedures (SSOPs). Ensure proper chemical handling, titration testing, and usage tracking in compliance with OSHA and corporate safety standards.
USDA Compliance:
Manage food safety protocols specific to USDA regulations, including environmental monitoring programs (Listeria/Salmonella swabbing), allergen control, and corrective actions (CAPA) for any pre-operational failures.
Cross-Functional Collaboration:
Partner closely with Production, Quality Assurance (QA), and Maintenance managers to minimize downtime while guaranteeing the highest standards of facility cleanliness.
Required Qualifications & Experience Experience:
5+ years of sanitation leadership experience in a food manufacturing or processing facility.
Language:
Bilingual fluency in English and Spanish is required (verbal and written).
Certification:
Active SQF (Safe Quality Food) Practitioner certification is required.
Regulatory Background:
Strong background working in a USDA-regulated facility (meat, poultry, or multi-ingredient USDA products) highly preferred; deep understanding of FSIS regulations and SSOPs.
Technical Knowledge:
Thorough knowledge of food microbiology, chemical safety (HAZMAT/OSHA), CIP (Clean-in-Place) and COP (Clean-out-of-Place) systems, and environmental monitoring.
Education:
