A Transportation Safety Manager is responsible for ensuring compliance with all transportation safety matters, legislative and regulatory, relating to an organization's day to day operations. Will provide specialist advice to the management and employees of the organization. May organize training to improve employee understanding of best transportation safety practice.
Full-Time A growing, mid-sized trucking company specializing in the transportation of crude oil and NGL products is seeking an experienced Transportation Safety Manager to join our Safety Department. Our fleet consists of approximately 100 trucks and professional drivers operating in Texas. This position will report to the Safety Director and work alongside other Safety Managers to support the company's
DOT/FMCSA
compliance, driver safety, accident prevention, regulatory compliance, and overall safety culture. We are looking for a hands-on trucking safety professional who understands both regulatory requirements and the day-to-day realities of commercial motor carrier operations. The ideal candidate will be comfortable working directly with drivers, operations, maintenance, and management in both office and field environments. Approximately 50% travel is required.
Key Responsibilities:
Support and administer company DOT, FMCSA, and transportation safety compliance programs . Monitor compliance with Hours of Service (HOS) regulations and review ELD records for violations, trends, and corrective actions. Maintain, review, and audit Driver Qualification (DQ) files and required driver documentation. Monitor

performance , roadside inspections, violations, and safety trends. Develop and implement corrective action plans to address DOT violations, driver performance issues, and compliance deficiencies. Assist with preparation for
DOT/FMCSA
audits, compliance reviews, and regulatory inspections . Investigate commercial motor vehicle accidents, spills, incidents, and near-misses. Conduct driver interviews and accident reviews, identify contributing factors and root causes, and recommend corrective actions. Track preventable accidents, DOT violations, driver performance, and other key safety metrics. Conduct driver safety training, safety meetings, coaching, and remedial training. Participate in new-driver orientation and ensure drivers understand company policies, DOT requirements, and safe operating procedures. Support compliance with DOT hazardous-material transportation requirements applicable to petroleum, NGL, and cargo-tank operations. Promote safe loading, transportation, and unloading practices for crude oil, NGLs, and related products. Work closely with Operations and Maintenance to identify and resolve safety and compliance issues. Conduct field visits, terminal and yard inspections, driver observations, and safety audits. Assist with emergency response and post-incident activities when necessary. Stay current on changes to federal and state transportation safety regulations and communicate relevant changes throughout the organization. Assist the Safety Director with developing, implementing, and improving company safety policies, procedures, and programs. Promote a strong safety culture based on accountability, communication, driver engagement, and continuous improvement.
Required Qualifications:
Minimum of 3 years of experience working in the Safety Department of a trucking company. Strong working knowledge of DOT and FMCSA regulations . Strong knowledge of Hours of Service (HOS) and ELD requirements . Experience with Driver Qualification files and driver compliance documentation. Knowledge of
CSA/SMS, DOT
roadside inspections, violations, and corrective-action processes . Experience investigating commercial motor vehicle accidents and safety incidents. Understanding of commercial trucking operations and professional driver safety. Strong communication skills and the ability to effectively work with drivers, dispatchers, operations personnel, maintenance personnel, and management. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. Ability to identify compliance issues, recommend corrective actions, and follow through to completion. Comfortable working independently as well as collaboratively within a safety team. Valid driver's license. Must currently reside in Texas . Must be willing and able to travel approximately 50% of the time .
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with crude oil, petroleum products, NGL, tanker, or other hazardous-material transportation . Knowledge of DOT hazardous-material and cargo-tank regulations. Experience working with tanker fleets and loading/unloading operations. Class A CDL with Tanker and/or Hazmat endorsements is a plus but is not required . Spanish speaking is a plus. Candidates located in the Houston metropolitan area or South Texas are strongly preferred.

The right candidate will be practical, professional, organized, approachable, and knowledgeable about trucking operations. He or she must be able to balance regulatory compliance with the operational realities of running a commercial trucking fleet while maintaining high safety standards. Direct trucking-industry safety experience is required. Candidates whose safety experience is primarily outside of trucking or commercial transportation may not meet the requirements for this position.
