Food Safety & Quality Manager
About Us
We are a growing food manufacturer located in East Tennessee. We are seeking a Food Safety & Quality Manager to lead and continuously improve our Food Safety and Quality Management System. This role works closely with plant leadership, employees, customers, and suppliers to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and industry standards while fostering a strong food safety culture throughout the organization.
Key Responsibilities Demonstrate and promote the company's core values of Teamwork, Flexibility, and a Positive Attitude.
Manage and maintain the company's Food Safety & Quality Management System.
Ensure compliance with all applicable food safety regulations and standards at the local, state, federal, and international levels.
Lead compliance with Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI) requirements, including SQF certification.
Support production operations by ensuring consistent product quality, food safety, sanitation, and regulatory compliance.
Maintain all food safety and quality documentation, records, and data management systems.
Review packaging and product labeling to ensure regulatory compliance and accuracy.
Manage supplier approval, monitoring, and quality compliance programs.
Coordinate and participate in internal audits, customer audits, regulatory inspections, and third-party certification audits.
Oversee outsourced laboratory testing programs, including environmental monitoring, product testing, and other food safety analyses.
Collaborate with plant leadership to develop and implement strategies that strengthen the company's food safety and quality culture.
Monitor departmental resources and control costs within established budgets.
Work closely with supervisors and department leaders to resolve quality issues and improve operational performance.
Review quality documentation for completeness, accuracy, and compliance.
Develop and deliver food safety and quality training programs for employees at all levels.
Lead by example in promoting food safety best practices throughout the organization.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications Bachelor's degree or certificate in Food Science, Food Technology, Microbiology, Chemistry, or a related field preferred.
Minimum of 2 years of Food Safety and Quality Assurance experience in a food manufacturing environment.
Working knowledge of:
Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs)
HACCP
Allergen Management
Food Safety Management Systems
Experience with SQF and GFSI certification programs preferred.
Experience managing outsourced food safety and environmental testing programs is preferred.
Demonstrated leadership experience, including supervising employees and leading cross-functional projects.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Strong organizational, analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking abilities.
Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
Knowledge of food science principles, manufacturing processes, quality assurance systems, and applicable food industry regulations.
