Environmental Education Program Instructor + Health Center facilitates engaging, hands-on outdoor learning experiences for school-aged children. The instructor will deliver lessons on ecology, conservation, outdoor ethics, and team building as part of a dynamic field-based environmental education program. This position plays a key role in inspiring youth to explore and respect the natural world. Additional responsibility to Health and safety of program participants, including completion of reports, maintaining records, application of first aid, and emergency response.

Essential Functions/Responsibilities:

Facilitate environmental education explorations and outdoor activities on topics including Life science, Earth Science, Leadership, and Outdoor skills Create a safe, inclusive, and engaging learning environment for students of varying backgrounds and abilities. Collaborate with other instructors and program leaders to deliver cohesive and age-appropriate curriculum. Set up, manage, and clean up instructional materials and activity stations. Assist in the cleaning and upkeep of camp facilities. Ie. Lodge, Barn, Bathrooms, Kitchen, and cabins. Assist in the care and maintenance of campgrounds. Ie raking, weeding, digging, etc. Respond to environmental conditions and adjust plans as necessary (e.g., weather changes). Model and promote environmentally responsible behavior. Supervise students during field trip activities, lunch, and transition periods as needed. Maintain a high level of professionalism when interacting with teachers, parents, and partner organizations. Maintain strict confidentiality and professionalism when handling sensitive information. Keeps health records, injury and illness logs, and medical record logs current. Keeps the Health Center clean and tidy; ensuring space is ready to use, first aid kits are adequately equipped and ready. Respond to all emergencies in a professional manner. Dispenses over-the-counter medication to campers with/per parents' written approval. Support the kitchen staff to ensure dietary restrictions are communicated. Adhere to all council policies and procedures.

Education, Work Experience, Skill Requirements & Certifications:

Minimum Education (or substitute experience) required: High School Diploma or Equivalent.

Minimum Experience required:

Must be at least 21 years of age. Have worked in a medical field in which applicant was directly responsible for patient care.

Skills Required:

Ability to keep supervisor informed and aware of activities and/or problems with area of work. Ability to work within established procedures and to recognize the important responsibilities of the position. Manage time effectively, work independently and handle several projects at the same time. Must be able to comprehend and practice all safety protocols and cleanings schedules for all Council and camp facilities. Demonstrate a demeanor that enables instruction and appropriate correction of behaviors and practices that expose others to safety threats or immediate harm. Ability to lift 50 pounds and physically meet the demands of the position. Ability to monitor health care, maintain accurate records, implement the camp health care plan and provide for the health and safety of campers and staff. The ability to work with adults and children regardless of age, race, disability, religion, ethnicity, or socioeconomic background. Possess a positive attitude and be flexible, responsible, patient and enthusiastic. Minimum License, Certifications & Affiliations/Memberships and CEU's Must successfully complete a criminal history background check. Maintain throughout employment a valid CA driver's license and an insured vehicle in good working order. Must provide a DMV printout and proof of insurance. At least 3 years of driving experience with a valid driver's license. Advanced First Aider Certification with a preventative health care certificate or better is required.
