Responsibilities Safely operate buses, vans, or transit vehicles in accordance with all traffic laws and transportation safety regulations. Assist passengers with boarding and disembarking, including wheelchair assistance and behavior management when necessary. Ensure passenger safety at all times by following emergency response procedures and vehicle codes. Provide excellent customer service by communicating clearly with passengers, addressing their needs, and maintaining a friendly demeanor. Conduct pre-trip inspections of vehicles to verify proper functioning and report any maintenance issues promptly. Follow school policies or transit protocols related to student discipline, passenger behavior, and safety procedures. Respond quickly to traffic changes or emergencies, executing emergency stop procedures when required. Requirements Valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with appropriate endorsements for passenger transportation. Proven experience driving buses, vans, or transit vehicles, preferably with school bus driving or paratransit experience. Knowledge of traffic laws, vehicle codes, and transportation safety regulations at the state and local levels. Ability to perform heavy lifting when assisting passengers or handling equipment. Strong communication skills in English; multilingual abilities such as bilingual skills are a plus for serving diverse communities. First aid and CPR certification preferred; candidates should be familiar with emergency response procedures for transportation. Experience working with children or seniors is highly desirable; patience and excellent behavior management skills are essential. Ability to respond quickly to traffic changes and adapt driving accordingly while maintaining passenger safety.
