Job Overview BioLegacy Research is seeking a proactive and detail-oriented EHS & Quality Assurance Specialist to support Environmental Health & Safety (EHS), Occupational Health, and Quality Assurance programs across our research laboratories and vivarium. This position plays a critical role in maintaining a safe, compliant, and inspection-ready research environment. The ideal candidate will have experience working with chemical and hazardous waste and/or an educational background in chemistry, biochemistry, biology, environmental science, or a related scientific discipline that provides a strong understanding of laboratory chemicals, biological materials, and associated hazards. Experience or familiarity with radioactive materials, radiation safety practices, or radiation-producing equipment is highly preferred. The successful candidate will work closely with Quality Assurance and Research Operations to promote a culture of safety, continuous improvement, and regulatory excellence. Key Responsibilities Environmental Health & Safety Lead and support Environmental Health & Safety programs for laboratory and vivarium operations. Conduct routine laboratory safety inspections, risk assessments, and compliance audits. Support the safe handling, labeling, storage, segregation, and disposal of chemical, hazardous, biological, sharps, and other regulated laboratory waste. Maintain hazardous materials and chemical inventories, Safety Data Sheets (SDS), hazard communication documentation, and appropriate storage and handling requirements. Prepare and update the Hazardous Materials Business Plan (HMBP) and support hazardous materials registration and reporting, as applicable. Investigate workplace incidents, accidents, exposures, spills, and near misses and recommend corrective and preventive actions. Coordinate Safety Committee meetings and maintain applicable EHS records. Develop and deliver employee safety training. Participate in emergency preparedness and response planning. Promote compliance with OSHA and other applicable safety and environmental requirements. Support laboratory radiation safety practices, including the safe handling, storage, inventory, documentation, and disposal of radioactive materials, as applicable. Support safety practices associated with C-Arm fluoroscopy, X-ray, and other radiation-producing equipment, including employee training, radiation protection, dosimetry, shielding, and required safety documentation, as applicable. Assist with maintaining radiation safety records and coordinating compliance activities with designated responsible personnel and external service providers, as needed. Occupational Health Coordinate occupational health programs, including medical surveillance, exposure monitoring, vaccinations, respirator fit testing, and employee health clearances. Maintain occupational health records. Support workers' compensation administration and return-to-work processes. Quality Assurance & Compliance Support GLP compliance activities. Perform internal quality audits and facility inspections. Assist with SOP development, revision, and document control. Support CAPA investigations and follow-up. Participate in regulatory inspections and audit readiness. Manage and maintain equipment inventory, including calibration and maintenance records. Assist with environmental monitoring and sanitation verification. Maintain inspection, training, safety, waste management, and quality records in accordance with Good Documentation Practices (GDP). Serve as backup support for controlled record and archive management. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to continuously improve laboratory safety and quality systems. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications Required Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biology, Environmental Science, Occupational Health & Safety, Life Sciences, or a related scientific or safety discipline. Two or more years of experience supporting Environmental Health & Safety, Quality Assurance, laboratory safety, hazardous materials management, or regulatory compliance in a laboratory, biotechnology, pharmaceutical, CRO, or other regulated environment. Demonstrated experience with hazardous waste management, including identification, segregation, labeling, accumulation, storage, vendor disposal, and regulatory recordkeeping. Working knowledge of OSHA requirements and laboratory safety practices. Knowledge of common laboratory chemical, biological, sharps, compressed gas, cryogenic, and other laboratory hazards. Strong organizational, communication, documentation, and problem-solving skills. Proficiency with Microsoft Office. Preferred Preference will be given to candidates with one or more of the following: Hands-on experience with chemical waste, hazardous waste, hazardous materials, or laboratory waste management. Academic or professional background in chemistry, biochemistry, toxicology, molecular biology, environmental science, or another laboratory-based scientific discipline. Experience or familiarity with radioactive materials, radiation safety practices, radioactive waste, dosimetry, or radiation-producing equipment. Experience working around C-Arm fluoroscopy, X-ray, or similar equipment in a laboratory, research, veterinary, or other regulated environment. Familiarity with applicable hazardous waste and environmental regulations. Experience preparing or maintaining a Hazardous Materials Business Plan or similar regulatory documentation. Experience working in a GLP-regulated laboratory or Contract Research Organization (CRO). Experience supporting vivarium or laboratory animal research environments. OSHA 30-Hour certification or equivalent safety training. Experience conducting internal audits, CAPA investigations, or supporting regulatory inspections. Familiarity with USDA, AAALAC, CDC, NIH, and other regulatory or accreditation requirements applicable to preclinical research environments. Why BioLegacy Research?
