Job Title:
Construction Safety Specialist Job Description The Construction Safety Specialist will provide dedicated safety management support to a civil construction team working on stormwater, piping, and excavation activities at a large site in Clay, NY. This role focuses on ensuring a safe work environment, promoting compliance with safety regulations and company policies, and supporting field operations through proactive safety oversight. Responsibilities Support the site safety management team by monitoring daily construction activities related to stormwater, piping, and excavation work. Oversee safety practices for excavation scopes, ensuring that all work is performed in accordance with OSHA standards and site-specific safety requirements. Conduct regular site walkthroughs and inspections to identify potential hazards and unsafe conditions, and promptly recommend corrective actions. Verify that crews follow proper procedures for trenching, shoring, shielding, and other excavation safety controls. Promote and enforce compliance with OSHA 10 and OSHA 30 safety guidelines and all relevant construction safety regulations. Participate in or support safety meetings, toolbox talks, and pre-task planning to reinforce safe work practices. Assist in incident and near-miss reporting and support the investigation process to determine root causes and preventive measures. Collaborate with supervisors and field personnel to address safety concerns and implement practical solutions that reduce risk. Monitor use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and ensure workers have and properly use required safety gear. Maintain accurate safety documentation, including inspection records, observations, and follow-up actions. Support continuous improvement of site safety culture by coaching and guiding workers on best practices in construction safety. Essential Skills Strong background in construction safety within civil construction environments. Experience overseeing excavation scopes, including trenching and related earthwork activities. Current OSHA 10 certification. Current OSHA 30 certification. Knowledge of OSHA regulations and construction safety standards. Ability to identify hazards and implement effective corrective and preventive actions. Effective communication skills to interact with field crews and site leadership. Ability to work onsite in a dynamic construction environment and adapt to changing conditions. Additional Skills & Qualifications Prior experience supporting safety management teams on large, complex construction projects. Familiarity with stormwater, piping, and other civil construction operations. Strong observational skills and attention to detail in identifying safety risks. Ability to contribute to safety meetings and training sessions. Organizational skills to maintain safety records and documentation. Work Environment This is an onsite role based at a large civil construction project in Clay, NY. The work takes place in an active construction environment involving stormwater systems, piping installation, and excavation activities. The schedule typically ranges from 40 to 55 hours per week with overtime available. Shifts will rotate between first and second shift, including a 12:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. rotation, requiring flexibility to support safety needs across varying work hours. The role involves regular field presence, walking on uneven terrain, exposure to outdoor weather conditions, and close interaction with construction crews and equipment. Appropriate personal protective equipment is required in accordance with site safety policies. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Clay, NY. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $50.00 - $52.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
