Job Description
Overview Join our dynamic transportation team as a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Driver, where your skills will directly impact safe, reliable, and efficient passenger transportation. In this vital role, you will operate various vehicles including school buses, transit buses, and paratransit vans to transport passengers safely across designated routes. Your dedication to safety, excellent customer service, and adherence to traffic laws will ensure a positive experience for all riders. Duties Safely operate commercial vehicles such as school buses, transit buses, and wheelchair-accessible vans in accordance with all traffic laws and transportation safety regulations. Transport passengers—including students, seniors, and individuals with disabilities—while ensuring their safety and comfort throughout the journey. Assist passengers with wheelchair assistance and other mobility needs, providing courteous support and ensuring proper securement of mobility devices. Follow emergency response procedures for transportation incidents, including emergency stop procedures and first aid protocols when necessary. Maintain clear communication with dispatchers and passengers using effective communication skills to respond quickly to traffic changes or route adjustments. Enforce student discipline policies and behavior management techniques to promote a safe environment onboard. Conduct vehicle inspections before and after routes, reporting any mechanical issues or safety concerns promptly. Adhere strictly to all vehicle codes, state and local commercial driving laws, and transportation safety regulations to uphold the highest standards of safety. Experience Valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with appropriate endorsements for passenger transport and wheelchair assistance. Proven experience operating school buses, transit buses, or paratransit vehicles in compliance with traffic laws and safety standards. Knowledge of transportation safety regulations including emergency response procedures for transportation incidents. Experience working with diverse passenger populations such as children, seniors, or individuals with disabilities is preferred. Strong communication skills in English; multilingual abilities are a plus for serving diverse communities. Ability to perform heavy lifting when assisting passengers or handling mobility equipment safely. Demonstrated understanding of student discipline policies and behavior management techniques in a transportation setting. Capable of quick response to traffic changes and maintaining focus during demanding driving conditions.
