8:00am-5:00pm (Mon-Fri) QPS Employment Group has a great Safety Specialist position available at a company in Mount Pleasant, IA. The Safety Specialist is responsible for supporting daily safety operations and regulatory compliance across manufacturing and trucking operations. This position will conduct inspections, coordinate safety training, investigate incidents, maintain safety records, and help ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, DNR, DOT, and company safety policies. The ideal candidate is organized, detail-oriented, safety-minded, and comfortable working directly with employees and leadership in an industrial environment. Safety Specialist Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Conduct routine safety inspections and facility/jobsite walkthroughs.
  • Identify hazards and ensure corrective actions are completed.
  • Maintain OSHA logs, incident records, and required compliance documentation.
  • Investigate workplace injuries, incidents, and near-misses.
  • Identify root causes and recommend corrective actions.
  • Assist with workers' compensation claims and return-to-work coordination.
  • Coordinate safety training, orientations, toolbox talks, and employee certifications.
  • Monitor PPE, LOTO, fire safety, first aid, and other safety equipment.

Conduct Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs) and support equipment safety programs. Assist with contractor safety orientations and compliance. Support emergency response planning and safety drills. Track safety metrics, inspections, incidents, and corrective actions. Maintain accurate and confidential safety records. Assist with environmental compliance, including stormwater and air sampling. Promote a strong safety culture and support continuous improvement. Perform other duties as assigned.

Safety Specialist Requirements:
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • 1+ year of safety experience in manufacturing, construction, industrial, or similar environment preferred.
  • Working knowledge of OSHA standards.
  • Familiarity with EPA, DNR, and DOT regulations preferred.
  • Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and documentation.
  • Basic Microsoft Office/computer skills.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Ability to work independently and throughout an industrial facility/jobsite.
Preferred Skills:
  • OSHA 30 certification or willingness to obtain.
  • First Aid/CPR certification.
  • Safety-related certification.
  • HAZWOPER/Hazmat or Confined Space training.
  • Forklift, rigging, or heavy equipment experience.
  • Incident investigation experience.
  • Precast/prestressed concrete or trucking experience.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish skills.
