Job description The Safety Specialist is responsible for the design, implementation, communication, and maintenance of all health, safety and environmental (HSE) programs. Key responsibilities include conducting safety meetings, identifying potential risks, and implementing necessary safety measures. The role entails providing direction on all HSE decisions which are critical to overall corporate objectives, operations, and profitability. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Develop & execute H&S strategies aligned with company objectives and industry best practices. Oversee the development, implementation, and maintenance of H&S policies, procedures, and management systems. Administer and maintain company random drug/alcohol testing through JJ Keller. Perform regular risk assessments and site inspections to identify potential hazards and ensure compliance with safety standards. Lead investigations into safety incidents and accidents, identify root causes, and recommend corrective actions to prevent future occurrences. Prepare and maintain accurate records and reports on safety inspections, audits, training activities, and incidents. Stay up to date with the latest OSHA regulations and industry best practices and incorporate them into the company's safety programs. Actively schedule and conduct safety meetings and training across all company locations to communicate HSE policies, procedures, goals, and expectations. Update and enforce safety policies and procedures, ensuring they are communicated effectively across the organization. Skills & Experience Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field is preferred. In lieu of a degree, a high school diploma combined with substantial relevant work experience will be considered. 1-3 years in a safety role with multi-site and multi-state safety responsibility, with a strong emphasis on OSHA compliance, risk mitigation, and training program development within a warehouse distribution center. Comprehensive understanding of OSHA regulations, safety codes, and industry best practices. Exceptional communication and presentation abilities; strong analytical and problem-solving skills; proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook). Demonstrated ability to lead, influence, and collaborate effectively across cross-functional teams. Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple priorities and maintain accuracy in a fast-paced environment Job Location Based out of our corporate office in Lansing, IL Travel up to 80% of the time visiting locations in 7 states Schedule Full-Time Monday through Friday Salary Expectations Starting salary $80,000 based on experience
