(UA-PSIA-IUBLA) Department Information Indiana University (IU) Public Safety pursues the university's commitment to providing the greatest degree of safety for all members of the IU community, consistent with the university's mission and environment, applicable legal and professional standards, and available resources. IU Public Safety directly oversees areas including the IU Police Department, Emergency Management and Continuity, and Fire Safety and Loss Prevention, operating with a team of approximately 300 dedicated staff on a 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year operational basis across all campuses. Job Summary Performs building inspections to ensure compliance with all state of Indiana adopted fire, building codes, and National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) standards. Resolves code issues during construction phase, and maintenance issues. Performs monthly inspections on fire extinguishers, sprinkler control valves, fire alarm panels, kitchen hood systems. Conducts fire pump testing, fire system acceptance testing, real estate building inspections and works special events including such as football and basketball games. Qualifications
EDUCATION
Required High school diploma or equivalent (such as HSED or GED).
WORK EXPERIENCE
Preferred Building code inspection/enforcement and/or fire safety. SKILLS Required Proficient communication skills. Working Conditions / Demands This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation. This position requires attendance at many special events that occur outside of normal working hours including evenings and weekends. This position requires the ability to occasionally travel to other campuses to provide additional support for investigation efforts.
