Environmental Health and Safety Coordinator

Job Description

Overview We are seeking an EH&S Coordinator who takes safety seriously and is committed to improving our safety and environmental programs in a practical, real-world setting. This role is critical to protecting our employees, maintaining regulatory compliance, and strengthening a safety culture within a fast-paced, high-hazard metal recycling operation. The right candidate will bring a balanced approach—someone who can identify risks, implement effective solutions, and work alongside operations to improve safety without unnecessary disruption. This is a hands-on role for a professional who leads through influence, sound judgment, and accountability. Duties Safety Leadership
  • Lead, improve, and consistently apply site-wide safety programs and policies
  • Work directly with operations teams to identify hazards and implement practical, effective solutions
  • Conduct Job Safety Analyses (JSAs) for yard, shredder, and torch operations
  • Oversee LOTO, confined space, and machine guarding programs
  • Promote a strong, accountable safety culture through engagement—not just enforcement Regulatory Compliance
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, and DOT regulations
  • Manage environmental permits (air, stormwater, waste)
  • Maintain SPCC, SWPPP, and other required plans
  • Lead inspections, audits, and regulatory interactions Environmental Management
  • Oversee proper handling of fluids, batteries, and regulated materials
  • Manage spill prevention and response programs
  • Monitor stormwater and site conditions to prevent contamination Training & Development
  • Deliver safety training, onboarding, toolbox talks, and ongoing education
  • Ensure workforce competency in high-risk tasks and proper PPE use Incident & Risk Management
  • Investigate injuries, near misses, and environmental incidents
  • Perform root cause analysis and implement corrective actions
  • Conduct routine audits and hazard assessments Emergency Preparedness
  • Maintain emergency response plans (fire, spill, severe weather)
  • Coordinate with local emergency responders Requirements
  • Strong working knowledge of OSHA, EPA, and DOT regulations
  • Experience in high-risk industrial environments (metal recycling, heavy equipment, or similar)
  • Ability to lead safety initiatives while building trust with operations teams
  • Strong communication, training, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to use sound judgment in balancing safety, compliance, and operational need Preferred

certifications and Experience in metal recycling, scrap yards, or related industries This position plays a key role in shaping a safety culture that is both effective and sustainable. Success in this role means protecting people, supporting operations, and building systems that work in the real world—not just on paper.
Pay:
From $60,000.00 per year
