Job purpose The Safety Specialist is a Project level position administering the EH&S program, and serving as safety advisor, ensuring safety compliance by the project team and all subcontractors working at the site. Duties and responsibilities Assists project team in preconstruction meetings with each subcontractor on the project Educates and advises project team on safety guidelines and policies to ensure compliance with all State, Federal, Local regulations and client requirements. Supervise, coach, mentor EH&S Specialists Coach project team in effective hazard identification and correction of issues Provide safety training to project teams on MW, client and OSHA requirements Ensure project teams perform HCSS Safety inspections & TBTs per company policy Participate in MW safety committees Promotes MW safety initiatives Conducts New Employee Orientations Conducts pre-employment and post-accident drug and alcohol testing Regularly conducts ESH jobsite audits and inspections Investigates accidents: injury, equipment damage, GL, auto Experience / Education 2-4 / plus years of construction safety management experience Or equivalent combination of education and experience CHST preferred Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Sound knowledge of construction safety principles, techniques and methods Practical knowledge of OSHA laws, regulations and policies Capable of identifying known potential exposures and recommending corrective action Strong computer skills and familiarity with the Microsoft Office suite Management, leadership and interpersonal skills Strong written and verbal communication skill Other Functions This position is assigned to the Hwy. 70 Project Office six miles from Kingdom City Day shift with periodic visits on night shift paving Respond to emergency calls after normal hours. Must have and maintain a valid driver's license. Working conditions Work is performed indoors and/or outdoors. The noise level is usually moderate to loud. While performing the duties of this position, the employee may be required to travel and be exposed to inclement weather including cold and heat. Ability to climb a ladder and crawl in small spaces (if required) and/or (bridges). Physical requirements The physical demands described here are representative of those that will be faced by an employee in order to successfully perform the functions of this job. The position requires that you will walk the construction site, climb ladders, climb stairs and walk on uneven ground.
