Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) Specialist The Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) Specialist is a hands-on professional responsible for supporting and implementing environmental, health, and safety programs within a manufacturing environment. This role partners closely with operations, engineering, and leadership to promote a strong safety culture, ensure regulatory compliance, and help maintain a safe and healthy workplace for all employees. The EHS Specialist serves as a visible presence on the production floor, providing guidance, conducting audits and inspections, delivering training, and assisting with compliance and continuous improvement initiatives. Assist with the implementation and continuous improvement of occupational health, safety, and environmental programs. Support the administration and maintenance of site safety programs, including: Fall Protection Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) Respiratory Protection Forklift and Man Lift Safety Hazard Communication Hazardous Energy Control (Lockout/Tagout) Chemical Exposure Prevention Emergency Response Fire Protection Electrical Safety Ergonomics Injury Prevention Conduct routine safety inspections, audits, and risk assessments throughout the facility. Assist in incident investigations and support root cause analysis and corrective action implementation. Maintain OSHA logs, injury records, workers' compensation documentation, and other required compliance records. Coordinate and deliver safety orientation and ongoing safety training for employees, contractors, and visitors. Maintain Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and environmental compliance records. Support hazardous materials management, waste handling, recycling programs, and environmental compliance activities. Monitor compliance with
OSHA, NC
OSHA, EPA, and other applicable regulations. Investigate employee safety concerns and recommend corrective actions. Participate in emergency preparedness activities, drills, and site security initiatives. Support new hire onboarding by ensuring required safety and environmental training is completed. Partner with operations and engineering teams to identify opportunities for hazard reduction and safety improvements. Participate on plant safety committees and assist with employee engagement initiatives. Collaborate with EHS personnel at other company locations to support standardization and best practice sharing. Serve as a visible advocate for safe work practices on the manufacturing floor. Qualifications Required Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, Industrial Hygiene, Ergonomics, or related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. EHS experience in a manufacturing, industrial, construction, or related environment. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite. Strong organizational and documentation skills. Ability to work independently while effectively collaborating with cross-functional teams. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Ability to spend significant time on the manufacturing floor conducting observations, inspections, and employee engagement activities. Preferred Experience with industrial metal manufacturing operations, including cranes, forklifts, welding, working at heights, mechanical presses, and paint operations. Familiarity with environmental regulations, hazardous waste management, and chemical compliance requirements. Experience with OSHA recordkeeping, workers' compensation administration, return-to-work programs, and hearing conservation programs. Understanding of Root Cause Analysis, Hierarchy of Controls, corrective actions, and continuous improvement methodologies. Safety certification such as
ASP, GSP, OSHA
30, or progress toward CSP certification. First Aid/CPR/AED certification. Experience with
ISO 14001, ISO
45001, or
ISO 9001
management systems. Powered Industrial Truck (PIT) Operator and/or Trainer certification. Overhead Crane Operator and/or Trainer certification.
HAZWOPER
40-Hour certification. OSHA 30-Hour Construction or OSHA 10/30-Hour General Industry training.
