Job Description

Opportunities Industrialization Center, Inc. (OIC) is seeking an experienced and engaging HR Training & Safety Specialist to help strengthen employee development, leadership capability, workplace safety, and emergency preparedness across our organization. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys both developing people and building practical systems that keep employees safe. Working closely with the Vice President of People & Culture and Senior Director of HR Operations & Compliance, the Specialist will help bring OIC's learning and development strategy to life while independently coordinating key components of the organization's safety and emergency preparedness programs. This is a hands-on role for someone who can confidently facilitate a room of employees or managers, coach leaders, conduct a safety walkthrough, identify a potential risk, and follow through until the issue is addressed. What You'll Do Facilitate engaging training for employees and leaders at all levels of the organization. Partner with the VP of People & Culture to assess training needs and execute organization-wide employee and leadership development initiatives. Support leadership and manager development through training, coaching, performance-management education, communication, accountability, conflict management, and other development topics. Develop and adapt practical training materials, presentations, job aids, and facilitator resources. Evaluate training effectiveness and recommend improvements based on participation, feedback, knowledge checks, leader input, and other measures. Maintain the organization-wide training calendar, LMS assignments, completion tracking, certifications, and required training records. Support new hire orientation and onboarding through assigned safety, culture, policy, and employee-development content. Coordinate OIC's emergency preparedness program, including emergency action plans, drills, evacuation procedures, communications, and follow-up actions. Conduct routine safety walkthroughs and identify hazards, operational gaps, and opportunities for corrective action. Support safety audits, inspections, incident reviews, documentation, and corrective-action tracking. Maintain safety records and support OSHA, DOT, fleet/vehicle safety, and other applicable workplace safety requirements in partnership with the Senior Director of HR Operations & Compliance. Evaluate safety trends and incident patterns and recommend practical improvements to leadership. Build collaborative relationships across OIC to strengthen participation, accountability, and adoption of safety and employee-development initiatives. What We're Looking For Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Occupational Safety, Business Administration, Organizational Development, Training & Development, or a related field preferred. Minimum of 3 years of progressively responsible experience in workplace safety, safety training, emergency preparedness, occupational safety, training facilitation, or a related field; 4-5 years preferred . Experience in healthcare, transportation, nonprofit, public-sector, or another regulated environment is preferred. Working knowledge of workplace safety practices, emergency preparedness, incident prevention, inspections, and safety program administration. Working knowledge of OSHA requirements; familiarity with DOT, fleet, or vehicle safety requirements is preferred. Demonstrated ability to facilitate engaging training for adult learners and audiences at varying levels of an organization. Strong coaching, presentation, communication, relationship-building, and project-management skills. Sound judgment and the ability to independently evaluate concerns, recommend action, and recognize when escalation is appropriate. Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple locations, deadlines, programs, and priorities. Proficiency with Microsoft Office; experience with ADP Workforce Now, an LMS, or another HRIS/learning platform is preferred. What Success Looks Like You'll help OIC create an environment where employees are prepared, developed, and safe . You'll be someone leaders trust for practical guidance, employees recognize as an engaging facilitator, and HR leadership can rely on to independently move important safety and development initiatives from idea to execution. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Occupational Safety, Business Administration, Organizational Development, Training and Development, or a related field preferred. A minimum of three (3) years of progressively responsible experience in workplace safety, safety training, emergency preparedness, occupational safety, training facilitation, or a related area is preferred. 4-5 years of experience preferred. An equivalent combination of education and relevant experience may be considered. Experience in a healthcare, transportation, nonprofit, public-sector, or other regulated environment is preferred. OSHA-related training or safety certification is preferred; DOT or fleet safety experience is a plus. Demonstrated experience facilitating training for adult learners is strongly preferred.
Skills/Abilities:
Strong working knowledge of workplace safety practices, emergency preparedness, incident prevention, inspections, and safety program administration. Working knowledge of OSHA requirements; familiarity with DOT, fleet, or vehicle safety requirements is preferred. Ability to build and maintain practical safety infrastructure, including emergency plans, drill schedules, inspection processes, tracking tools, and corrective action follow-up. Skilled in delivering clear, engaging, and credible training presentations to employees and leaders at varying levels of the organization. Strong facilitation, public speaking, coaching, and interpersonal skills with the ability to make technical or compliance-related information understandable and actionable. Ability to identify training needs and develop practical learning materials, presentations, job aids, and facilitator resources. Strong organizational, project management, time management, and follow-through skills with the ability to manage multiple locations, deadlines, and initiatives. Strong written communication and documentation skills, including the ability to prepare clear procedures, reports, checklists, and training materials. Demonstrated judgment and discretion in evaluating safety, training, and operational concerns; determining appropriate courses of action within assigned authority; and identifying matters requiring escalation. Ability to compare and evaluate alternative courses of action and provide recommendations on matters affecting workplace safety, emergency preparedness, and employee development. Ability to build collaborative relationships and influence safe practices without serving as the organization's sole compliance authority. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, particularly PowerPoint, Excel, Word, and Outlook; experience with ADP Workforce Now or another learning management/HRIS platform preferred. Ability to work independently, exercise sound judgment, manage significant assignments with limited supervision, and take initiative in improving safety culture and employee development. Reliable transportation and the ability to travel between OIC locations as needed for training, safety walkthroughs, inspections, and other job-related activities is required. Physical Requirements While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit for periods one or more hours; use hands and fingers; reach with hands and arms; and talk and hear.
