Position Description:
Position Summary The Safety Intern is a supervised developmental assignment that introduces students or early-career candidates to construction safety and risk management at Park. Working closely with the Safety Coordinator, the intern supports safety data tracking, site inspections, and training activities, with defined learning objectives and no independent safety authority. Essential Functions and Responsibilities Support the Safety team in ensuring compliance with statutory and project safety regulations. Assist with collecting, organizing, and analyzing safety and health data and trends. Participate in incident and near-miss investigations alongside field personnel. Help communicate safety lessons learned to field personnel. Support the coordination of site safety initiatives. Help track completion of action items from audits, inspections, and reports. Assist with safety briefings, training sessions, and new-employee orientations. Support injury and incident documentation and follow-up. Help monitor the issuance and maintenance of PPE and first-aid equipment. Participate in safety and health walk-throughs, assessments, and site inspections. Assist with preparing materials for the Employee Safety Committee. Observe and learn how safety programs are implemented and communicated across project sites.
Position Requirements:
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of
OSHA 1926
construction standards and basic jobsite hazard recognition, or willingness to learn. Knowledge of Park's safety policies, PPE requirements, and incident-reporting procedures. Skill in collecting, organizing, and analyzing safety and health data. Skill in Microsoft Office applications. Ability to multi-task and manage time to meet deadlines. Ability to work within a team environment as well as independently. Ability to communicate safety expectations clearly in writing and verbally. Ability to work comfortably in a field environment, including outdoor conditions and physical activity. Ability to travel to project sites within the Twin Cities area as needed.
Education and Experience Required:
High school diploma or GED required; actively pursuing a Bachelor's degree in occupational safety and health, construction management, or a related field.
Preferred:
Prior coursework or exposure to OSHA standards or safety management concepts.
Required and Preferred Licenses or Certifications Required:
Valid driver's license; must pass company pre-employment drug and alcohol screening.
Preferred:
OSHA 10-Hour Construction certification, or willingness to obtain. Physical Requirements Work is performed primarily on active construction sites, requiring walking uneven terrain, prolonged standing, and exposure to changing weather conditions, with required use of PPE, combined with periodic office-based documentation work. Work Environment Primarily field-based across Park project sites, with periodic office-based reporting and documentation work. This position is classified as safety-sensitive. Schedule and Travel Full-time or part-time seasonal schedule aligned with academic calendar and project needs; willingness to travel to project sites within the Twin Cities area as needed.
