Job Description:
General Objectives:
Reporting to the Safety, Health and Security Manager, the Safety and Health Specialist over training and contractor controls is responsible to provide occupational safety and health guidance, training and support to the departments and personnel at the Marigold Mine, including contractors. The Safety and Health Specialist will typically work four consecutive ten-hour day shifts which may include occasional weekends, holidays and night shifts.
Key Areas of Responsibilities & Duties:
The key responsibilities of the Safety & Health Specialist over training and contractor controls include, but are not limited to the following: Responsible for personal compliance with safety and environmental policies and procedures for all personnel, contractors, and vendors. Be a safety and health leader. Oversee site training programs including new hire, annual refresher, hazard, and compliance trainings. Steward of the site Learning Management System (LMS) operations, potentially including course updates, assignments, auditing, and reporting. Support contractor vetting, selection, onboarding, compliance, and field activities for the site. Regularly interact with, inspect, and support contractors in the field. Attend site-wide departmental safety meetings providing employees with updates and instruction. Participate in the Marigold Emergency Response Program. Lead/participate in safety and health audits and inspections. Participate in regulatory compliance inspections. Facilitate site risk assessments, management of changes, and incident investigations. Provide high-quality written reports when required. Must be available for call out when needed. Any other job duties that may be required.
Required Skills:
Strong computer skills to include Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Project) Comfortable giving presentations and speaking to large groups. Ability to self-pace and prioritize work Ability to build trust and develop great working relationships with site personnel and regulatory agencies. Provide strong leadership and act as an effective change agent. Ability to interact with all departments or groups as needed, for problem resolution. Proficiency with LMS platforms and e‑learning tools.
Required Experience:
At least 2 years of surface mining experience (safety or training experience preferred). Occupational safety or health-related degree (preferred) Certified MSHA instructor (IS designation). In-depth experience with MSHA regulatory requirements. Experience with Workday preferred SSR Mining Inc. is an equal opportunity employer.
