00PM-4:00AM Position Summary The Environmental Safety Specialist is responsible for maintaining a safe, secure, therapeutic, and trauma-informed environment for residents, visitors, and staff within a secure Qualified Residential Treatment Program (QRTP). This position serves as the primary monitor of facility access, environmental safety, surveillance systems, resident movement, and emergency response while promoting a culture of safety, professionalism, and respect. The Environmental Safety Specialist works collaboratively with nursing, clinical, and residential staff to ensure compliance with OhioMHAS regulations, Joint Commission standards, agency policies, and trauma-informed care principles. This role is not intended to function as a correctional officer but as a safety professional who supports a therapeutic treatment environment. Essential Job FunctionsFacility Access Control Monitor all secured entrances and exits. Control resident, visitor, vendor, and contractor access. Verify identification and authorization before granting facility access. Maintain visitor logs and issue visitor badges. Conduct package inspections and property checks in accordance with agency policy. Monitor electronic access systems, panic alarms, and surveillance cameras. Respond immediately to unauthorized entry attempts. Environmental Safety Conduct routine environmental safety rounds throughout the facility. Inspect resident bedrooms, bathrooms, classrooms, recreation areas, offices, and outdoor spaces for safety hazards. Identify and remove contraband or prohibited items following facility policy. Monitor lighting, doors, locks, emergency exits, and alarm systems. Report maintenance and life safety concerns immediately. Assist with infection prevention and environmental cleanliness monitoring. Resident Safety Monitor resident movement throughout the facility. Support implementation of individualized safety plans. Assist staff with resident searches when authorized. Observe residents for behaviors that may indicate safety concerns or crisis. Support staff during behavioral emergencies using approved de-escalation techniques. Promote a calm, respectful, trauma-informed environment. Surveillance and Monitoring Continuously monitor CCTV surveillance systems. Document unusual activity or security concerns. Monitor facility perimeter throughout assigned shifts. Ensure secure storage areas remain locked. Maintain accountability of keys, FOBs, and access devices.

Minimum QualificationsEducation High School Diploma or GED required. Associate's degree in Criminal Justice, Behavioral Health, Public Safety, Human Services, Psychology, Social Work, or related field preferred. Experience Minimum of one (1) year of professional experience in one or more of the following: Qualified Residential Treatment Program (QRTP) Psychiatric Residential Treatment Facility (PRTF) Behavioral Health Facility Residential Treatment Program Juvenile Justice Youth Residential Services Corrections Security Services Law Enforcement Military Police Hospital Security Group Homes Crisis Stabilization Units Experience working with adolescents experiencing behavioral health disorders is strongly preferred. Perform frequent safety rounds. Climb stairs. Lift up to 50 pounds. Respond quickly during emergencies. Occasionally restrain or assist with physical interventions only when trained and authorized. Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions. Work Environment This position is located within a locked, secure Qualified Residential Treatment Program (QRTP) serving adolescent females with behavioral health needs. The work environment may involve exposure to verbal aggression, behavioral crises, and emergency situations requiring sound judgment, professionalism, and adherence to trauma-informed care principles. Pay:
$19.00 - $20.00 per hour Expected hours: 21.0 - 30.0 per week
